LG Ri32CZ10RX NICAM - flicker problem

I bought an LG Ri32CZ10RX (16:9, 76cm, NICAM) TV 11 months ago, and just recently it's begun to exhibit two quirks :-
First, the remote control only works intermittently. Changing the batteries does not help, and I know the remote is at least putting out some kind of signal - if I point the remote at a digital camera I can see the emitter flashing blue.
Second, the screen has developed a slight flicker. On high contrast images I can see slight fluctuations in brightness. The problem appears to be intermittent, but as it's only really visible on high contrast images, it could be constant & I'm just not noticing it all the time.
Am I doomed?
