Need Help fixing Sony Bravia KDL-46W4100 Can't Post

I was given this Sony so I thought I'd see if I could fix it. The problem is that the left 3/4 of the screen seems to refresh slowly, if the image is moving then you see multiple images and they fade out slowly. If the picture holds still then it doesn't look too bad. In addition, the color seems to get redder and darker as you go right to left. See pics. The right 1/4 of the picture seems pretty normal. <br> <br>One other problem is that there are two vertical lines right near the left and right edges of the screen, you can see in the pics. <br> <br>Any thoughts on what would cause this? I read online that this tv has had problems with the connectors on the glass screen and that you could "fix" it by squeezing the connectors so I took it apart and tried to squeeze around the edge but it didn't really help although I see some slight color change in the right vertical line. But I don't know if I am squeezing it correctly and I haven't taken the metal frame off either.
Just wondering where to go from here?

Well , you bogied this forum with those HUMONGUS PIX !!!

Quote
Just wondering where to go from here?

IF you don't change the size of those pix , you can go to Dallas & look at their Jumbotron !!!
We need a SHUTTLE BUS just to go from the left side of the screen to the right side...

HERE we go again !!!
There's IMAX , then there's the JUMBOTRON at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium !!!
These ARE JUMBOTRON sized pix..Unsure..

NONE of the techs here that I know of have an IIIIIMMMMMMMAAAAAAAAXXXXXXXX Monitor !!!.
PLEASE go back & RE-SIZE your pix..
They ARE TOOOOO WIDE for this thread...

When you post pix , PLEASE use the "Preview Post" feature to see how HUGE they will look in the thread...
IF they are TOOOO big (As they are here) , you can easily go back to photobucket or ?? & adjust them accordingly..
IF you don't , I suspect other techs will ignore this thread & I WILL consider filing a complaint to the forum Gods...

Thanks.......

Have a nice day & weekend.......

I resized them within minutes of posting, wow you guys are fast! Normally, I would include the resizing as part of the img tag but I found out that you can't post HTML into this posting so I had to go re-size them. I hope the current size looks better.

NOT IN THE LEAST !!!!

Below & to the right of the "Reply Box " , there's a "button" that says " "PREVIEW POST" !!!
When you click on that , the post will show up as it will appear in the thread...
So , there's NO excuse for GIGANTIC PIX !!!

Try re-saving your pix as JPG or JPEG & re-posting them...
Usually that does the trick...
I see that one of the pix comes from http://www.mydocrite.com/TV_Images/tv3.jpg

The above pix has 1032 X 581..
I'm not that familiar with pix re-sizing by changing the pixels..
IF you can adjust that to a smaller number , that may work..

You might want to try http://photobucket.com...
Upload the pix as JPG/JPEG from your computer..
After they're uploaded , click on the pix & get the "Direct" link...
Open that in a new window & do NOT enlarge the pix...
Click on the pix & copy to your post...
Works for me & it should work for you too...

REMEMBER TO "PREVIEW POST" BEFORE you post the reply in the thread ....!!!

Yea I used preview and it looked fine then and looks fine now. Anyone else think they are too big? What's a good pixel width to resize to?

As you can see , I posted these pix VERTICALLY INSTEAD of HORIZONTALLY & it makes a big difference !!!
Posting the pix this way makes the thread much narrower & is easier to see what you are talking about..
Side by side posting of the type of pix you have appears to be part of the problem...

PLEASE go back to your original post & delete all the pix ..
Then re-paste them as I did & the thread width WILL shrink DRAMATICALLY!!!
THANK YOU !!!

Changing the pixels also may help...
Experiment with raising the pixels & if that doesn't work , try a smaller number...
Not sure that either will help , but , it's worth a try...

Re: [flyatyou66] Need Help fixing Sony Bravia KDL-46W4100 [In reply to] Can't Post

I definitely still need help! My wife says I need a lot of help but that's another subject.

So I was going to try to access all the panel edge connectors to put some pressure on them to see if they effect the picture or not. Good idea? Thought I would try to eliminate that problem as a cause first as it seems that is a common failure mode for the Sony Bravias. So far I've not figured out how to open the metal frame around the LCD panel so I can get direct access to the connectors. Any advice on that? I downloaded the service manual but it doesn't show or describe how to do that. Lame manual compared to the Panasonic one I had.

Here is what i need. Does your osd show up clear or distorted? And quite ripping your tv apart from ear to ear. STOP!!.
There's 3 possibilities: yea 3. The 1 I would go with is main board. good chance. Next is t-con. I really don't think so but small chance. And then there is the screen glass connetors??
Let me know how osd (menu) is clear or not.

The osd menu displays with some areas very dark, I added some more pics of that since I'm so good at adding pics! I even added a video of changing menus to show how there is really slow fade out from image to image, in the left side of the screen. Does this help? Is there any test I can do on the main board?
That video is really slow loading, sorry. Notice how the osd (as well as the normal picture) have dark areas but the service menu does not.

Re: [fourholesn1] Need Help fixing Sony Bravia KDL-46W4100 [In reply to] Can't Post

The tv must be on the old side. I have been doing research and found some interesting things. I think that the color and slow picture are t-con board. The vertical lines probable from screen connectors, and the darkness from backligh inverter board. Not good new is it.
Could you give me age of tv? I'm going to do a little more searching but it's begining to look like bad screen with those vertical lines.

The back sticker says June 2008, sad if that's considered old huh? Well I got this for free so no biggie if it goes into the dumpster. Is that your advice?

If you are a gambling man dark areas are backlight inverter board, color is t-con. These 2 boards shoul give you a good picture if you install them. Totally up to you.

Re: [flyatyou66] Need Help fixing Sony Bravia KDL-46W4100 [In reply to] Can't Post

Ok cool, tomorrow I'll do some research on what those boards will cost and then decide. I'm more a nickel slot type of guy but I might go 50 or 60 bucks on it. The side lines aren't really a problem for me and I might put this tv in my exercise room.

Just to clarify the main board is the big one in the middle and the T-Con board is the one directly above it under the metal shield right?

Shop Jimmy can actually be a good resource for identifying which board is which.

Your video/player above doesn't appear to be working, or maybe I can't figure out how it works?

I wasn't able to resize the video so the file is 32 MB and it takes a while to load so that's probably the problem.

The inverter I can get for $10.50 but the t-con would be $100 and I don't think I want to spend that much given the vertical lines in the picture and the age of the tv so it's into the dumpster for one. Thanks everyone for all the help! At least I learned how to post pictures correctly.......Wink
