Philips 20" Help Needed Can't Post

I have a 5 year old Philips 20" TV that lost it's picture (there is just a straight line of light going horizontally across the screen). I have been told it needs a "vertical control". Problem is that the cost of repair ($85-$100) makes it a concern whether it is worth putting that kind of money in it. I am told the part is only around $12.50. I am willing to tackle the repair myself if I could get a little help somehow and find where to get the part. Any ideas greatly appreciated ??

To do a one off without tools or skills is not worth it. You need a new vertical IC a new booster capacitor and probably a new safety resistor. The tools you need are a soldering iron, solder wick to suck off the old solder. Solder and a multimeter. The cost of that is about the cost you have been quoted for the repair. Also component suppliers most often have minimum cost orders, so your $12 chip may cost $50, my usual cost when getting parts is $9 P+P
