Philips TV Model No. 32PW6332/05 Keeps Switching Off Can't Post

Hello All, I have a Philips 32" TV Model Number: 32PW6332/05, I think it was made in 1999/2000. It belonged to a friend of ours & gave it to us six months back! It worked fine for about two weeks & then it started to switch off for no reason, It'll come back on but will go off again! After a while it started to switch off & the screen would go green with white lines at times, but the sound (Audio) remains on! It will come back on if it's switched off & left for few minutes & then switch on again, but lately it stays green for ages! I am not quite sure if there is a dry joint some where or obviously it could be a faulty component! I would appreciate some help or advice on how I could fix the problem as I can't afford the repair costs TV Engineers charge these days! Your help would be highly appreciated. Thank you

Ernie is correct, Philips had problems with these tubes from the start. they spark internally in fact the whole tv was trouble ,so sit down and get an estimate for replacing the tube.my bet is it wont be less than £250.00, so its down to the landfill site !!

Well I will tell you now I dont know the set but you are being told its a tube fault, OK so what, what is the fault in the tube. I watch a Sony which has a cathode heater short on red and have done for 6 years since the customer suggested I did not modify it but bin it. If your fault is a cathode heater short, there is a simple fix, Why are people so unkind. ? .

maybe the fix is simple to us,but how much does he know, maybe not so simple for him.also if he was to ask for a quote round here they would say it needs a new tube as the main repair shop here say that they are not allowed to do that fix on customer tvs.if being trueful is unkind then that cant be helped.he asked for advice,we said the tube is gone(true).scrap the tv(advice)

Crystal balls are wonderful things, Im sure yours tinkle well. I can not tell what he knows, nor can you. There is no ban on fixing any TV set out of the warranty period as long as that repair meets the safety standards of the country. Having worked in 3 different countries, that is fact. As a technician for many years, I find it is best to give people facts and allow them to make their own judgements, who am I to tell the guy its landfill when a simple heater transformer and 10 minuits work could fix it. I may be incorrect because the TV is not on my workbench, but the liklihood is I am not. Rob

i said but how much does he know, and it may not be a simple repair for him, depending what he knows,i never said how much he knows,so forget the crystal ball bit.also i didnt say that fix was banned i said this firm was not allowed to do it on customers tvs(maybe company policy)this is a big firm who do a lot of insurance work and tvs with that fault are all written of(i should know there in my shed)

Major manufacturers do this all the time, its what is known as blackmail. They go to repairers who are agents and tell them you will do X Y and Z or we will cut you out. Its a means of selling parts. I could name one company who bought parts via a home base. Parts could be bought from the store next door but they were paid for from overseas and imported at a different price from overseas. This was a massive tax rip off which killed profit in country A to put into country B. Who cares about the customer or the country. Well sorry I do. You have just told the guy not to go to your big Mr big Wefixit as he is governed by those who tell him to scrap it and buy another. You have just told him what he probably suspected, there are sharks out there. The Modification by the way comes from the Duch Philips K9 TV set so its not a backyard fix.

sorry about the missunderstanding,i wasnt saying this is a bodge it job,far from it as i have used it myself several times, one nearly a year ago on a 36inch panosonic which is still going now.i agree about these big firms ripping people of,from experience,as i buy these so called scrap tvs and repair a good percentage of them, but these are insurance write offs so the customer is happy as he gets a new tv,the shop is happy as he gets paid by the insurance company plus a few quid of people like me who buys them of him,and we make our bit on the ones we fix.i know its a bit iffy as he is supposed to pay for the scrap tvs to go to recycle, but then again i am recycling them.as for this guys problem why dont you just post the fix here and let him decide then if he is compenant enough to do it.

Your idea as to the law is not particularily crash hot. You are not getting a set from the firm you work for, you are buying a set from the manager of that firm. It is illegal, and the reason is simple. The tax department charge no sales tax on a TV set which is used to replace a writen off TV as it is part of the origional purchace. Your TV though was not writen of, it is not a liability but has been turned into an undeclaired asset. The firm isnt doing that, being caught at that and hell breaks loose, but the manager is. He has found a nice little nest egg and is a happy chappy, neither wonder he wants TVs writen off when guuys like you fill his pockets.

whilst fitting an isolating transformer with a winding off the flyback transformer is not a bodge up,the point is that the tv has been modified to non manufacturers specifications, which is ok as long as it does not catch fire in the future for whatever reason, and the insurance assessor discovers this and tries to swing the blame on whoever did the non authorised modifications.

which is more then likely the reason that the shop i was on about will not repair tvs doing this fix also since this thread started i have spoke to a mate in another repair shop who also said they will not do this fix to a customers tv.
