Please help : My Panasonic TV isn't at all well!

Hi
I do hope you can help. I have a Panasonic widescreen TV, around 3 years old and, up to now, I haven’t had any problems with it.
During the last week, when switching on from ‘cold’ (ie in the morning), about quarter of the screen, from the bottom up, is black and the ‘squashed’ picture at the top is very grainy. Also, the black part gradually creeps up the screen..
After a while, the TV switches itself off into standby and repeated attempts to switch it on again result in the TV automatically going back into standby. However, if I leave it for about 10 minutes and switch it back on, it’s OK with a normal picture.
I’m worried that this is the start of a major problem. Any ideas as to what the problem is and, more importantly, what I can do about it?
