Polaroid TV shows image for one second and then goes black Can't Post

Hi guys. This is my first time posting here. I hope you guys can lend me a hand with my broken TV.

Before I begin, I should probably state that this TV is around 8 years old and that I have fixed it before by soldering in a new transistor. That was a different symptom though, the screen was fully white and wouldn't even display the Polaroid logo. I'm not an expert by any means, I just figured I had nothing to lose by trying and got lucky with Google. :)

This time it turns on, shows the Polaroid logo, and then I can see VGA output for about a second and then it makes a "poof" noise out of the speakers and the screen goes off (not black, just off). It's interesting since I have nothing connected to the TV's audio (I use it as a computer monitor).

The TV is a Polaroid TLA-01911C. I figure I either have to replace another transistor or maybe replace one of the circuit boards, and if so the question is which. Thanks in advance!

Have you ever replaced any capacitors on power board? The way you explained the problem sounds like capacitor problem.open up and look at caps on main board for buldge or leaking. They have capacitor repair kits for this lcd tv.Ilooked at your power board and it's not all that ezxpensive to buy, it's the shipping. Capacitors are only rated for 5 years.

HORSEPUCKEY !!!
I've NEVER heard that before !!!

Unless they are made from tin foil & wax paper , that statement is pure BS !!!..
Electrolytic caps will last a long time (10yrs~INF) as long as their rated working voltages are ABOVE the range of the signal or DC voltages of the circuit they are in & forced to work under...
IF the DC voltage is at or near the rating of the cap , then their life span is short...
IF the signal voltage is at or above the rating of the cap , their life span is also shortened...
Samsung & other manufacturers of flat panel TVs DELIBERATELY put in cheaper lytic caps in their power supplies to (WAIT FOR IT !!!).....
SAVE MONEY !!!
Who'd have thunk ???...
Didn't work out so good , did it ???..
Those caps had a SHORT life span because Samsung & others put in caps that were NOT rated correctly for the voltages they had to deal with..
So much for your 5 year rating...

You seem to know a bit about what you are telling folks here , but , please do NOT try to mislead anyone here...

Have a nice day...Sly...

Yep, there were two busted capacitors. Lucky for me I still had the capacitor set I bought to fix it the first time, and I had two capacitors with the same voltage as the broken ones, so I took a swing at replacing them. Sadly it didn't work, the same problem persisted. :(

I'm just gonna buy a new power board. If that doesn't work then I'll buy a new main board. If that doesn't work either then I'm gonna cry myself to sleep for spending $60 on this old TV instead of saving that money to buy a new and better 1080p monitor like any normal person would.

Thanks!

Sounds like the inverter board (transformer) on it has gone south. Also a model number would be helpful in diagnosing the television.

been a long day wow missed that one bad Shocked

disregard my post above and don't throw any money toward that tv (could be a backlight going) since you could buy one that small for hardly nothing.

Alright so I got a new power board. I replaced it, plugged the TV in, turned it on, then I hear buzzing noises and then smoke came out the back. XD

That's it, I'm taking xgc12's advise and letting this baby go. I'll try and sell the display itself on eBay.

I'm gonna make a "sequel" thread for a completely different yet related issue: http://www.tv-forums.com/cgi-bin/gforum.cgi?post=157400;t=search_engine#157400

Thanks guys!
