RCA 19in loud squal as soon as it is plugged in? Can't Post

Hi,

This is my first time here, I have a 19in RCA that is a little over a year old, and it makes a high pitched squeal as soon as it is plugged in. I suspect the main transformer but I am unsure. I know that the newer tv's are of rather low quality. Who is building decent sets besides Sony and Hitachi?

Also are the newer TV's built to automatically discharge their flybacks on powerdown, or do you still have to run a lead to the anode cap, damn I hate that crack

It sounds like the usual RCA flyback failure. For a 19" set, it is probably not worth the cost of repairs. Most new NAME BRAND sets are fairly reliable but I would stay away from Zeniths and RCA/GEs. And no, new sets do not automatically bleed the static charge from the CRT anode.
