RCA Scenium 50" plasma half black screen Can't Post

I have an RCA Scenium 50" plasma model # PHD50300 that has been trouble free since I purchased it several years ago, recently however the top half of the screen would go black and the picture would not come back unless I cycled the power. This past week however, the top half of the screen is black when I turn it on and will sometimes come back on if I leave the tv on for about 30 minutes or so, other times it never comes back. While the top half of the screen is black the bottom half of the screen shows a pretty distorted looking picture. My question for those out there, is this an easy fix, will it cost alot or should I just give up on this set? A repair shop I spoke too briefly on the phone mentioned it could be a voltage issue but they want 90.00 to even look at it so I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this problem.

Hi: This problem is either an x-sus board,y-sus board, upper sdr-drive board, or the plasma panel it's self is defective. With the upper (not the lower) sdr-drive board being bad most likely, the y-sus board #2, or a ribbon cable bad on the panel it's self, and if it is a bad ribbon you need and new panel (ouch). Could be a bad solder joint on one of these boards, as they are known for this, they run very hot. Look for anything that looks burnt or discolored. You may have found the problem!
