RCA CTC 136 Can't Post

I have an RCA CTC-136 that will out of the blue, not change channels,

auto program, turn off, from either the remote or the front panel.

I have checked the voltage test points ( they check ok) but by then

the problem has gone away and will not show up for 20 to 30 days.

I have resoldered the tuner and spots on the main circuit board but

to no avail, has anyone any ideas?

Thanks, Black Bart

Thanks for your response Mel, would an eeprom act like that?

The tv is played about 4 hours daily and the last time it failed I

checked the tp voltages and soldered on the tuner and it was ok

for 20 to 30 days. would you know where the eeprom is located

on the board? I tried to locate a diagram on line but could not

find one, 89 tv probably too old.

Thanks, Black Bart

Re: [Black Bart] RCA CTC 136 [In reply to] Can't Post

Sorry about that! When I gave you the original answer, I didn't realize how old that set was and it does not use an EEPROM. Apprently in this model, the memory is stored in the synthisizer/microprocessor U601. I am workoing from SAMS 2596 which covers the CTC136 but may not be for your specific revision. You can go to www.samswebsite.com and search for your revision number and download it for $20. The tuning section is contained in folder 1-A of the SAMS. With a set that old, you will probably not be able to find a replacement part and I have pretty much cleaned my boneyard of all of those OLD RCA chassis.

Thanks Mel, Thats probably what I'll do, I hate to throw it away, when

it works it works good. I just got through checking the solder joints

again and of course it working again.

Thanks for your help,

Black Bart
