Sony VCR SLV-740HF

Hi all The machine turns on and accepts a VHS. It also pulls the tape up correctly and the tape head seems to spin fine. The issue is it can't seem to move so the tape inside the vhs doesn't progressed using either of the functions to do so. When I opened it up I noticed this small white piece of plastic with a spring thats now not connected, it has to have something to do with it but can't work it out for the life of me where it was meant to go. Any ideas?

Seems to me that there was another subforum here where postings concerning VCRs would more appropriate. (H mech)
