Samsung 52"LCD Power Problem Can't Post

Hi all,
About 3 years ago I bought a Samsung 52" LCD TV (Model LN52A630M1F). A few weeks ago I turned it on and it began repeatedly going through the power up cycle. It would click, the red light would flash, the power up music would come on, and then the whole process would repeat itself. I did some research online and found out about all the capacitor problems. I took the cover off and took a look but they all look okay. Just to be safe I replaced the entire power board (part # BN44-00201A). Unfortunately that didn't change anything.
I have been able to get the device to come on intermittently. Sometimes it stays on without a problem and other times it comes on for about five seconds and then gets all washed out with vertical green lines. At that point there is no sound - just loud static. Does anyone know of anything else in this tv that can cause these types of power problems besides the power board?
Thanks!
Derek R.

Re: [drapp] Samsung 52"LCD Power Problem [In reply to] Can't Post

I seem to have the same problem, although my TV is the ln52a650a1fxza. My capacitors are also OK upon visual inspection.
I talked to a Samsung Technician about this problem, and he said the bad capacitor boards were manufactured with date codes between March 2007 and Oct 2008. Based on my serial number, my TV was mfg. in December of 2008, so I would not have that issue anyway.
He went on to say that is probably is still the powerboard, and he can replace it for about $370. However, I found the BN44-00200a and BN44-00201a power supply boards online for about $60. I am planning on fixing this myself since I am very good with electronics hardware, it is an easy swap of the boards.
I am still a little unsure if the BN44-00201a can be used as a substitute for the BN-00200a? Is this basically the same board, but perhaps a newer version? Would this have the defect fixed, but the BN-00200a would still have a problem in 1-2 years?
The Samsung Tech also said that 95% of these clicking on/off issues are the powerboard, but in rare cases it can be the main board that has gone bad. I think this is also called the TCon board? It is toward the top of the tv, under a metal cage. Perhaps that is the issue with your TV?

In almost every case I've had with these, if the caps in the power supply aren't physically blown it ends up being the main. But to know for sure, monitor the power on pulse coming out of the main.

Look around for the force run procedure for your power supply and see if the outputs are steady. And with some you just remove the plug from the main to the power supply and it will turn the supply on. It is late at night here, and I don't have the link to Samsung at home. Or I would look it up...Wink

Thank you for this information. So you are referring to the main board? and if you unplug it from the power supply board, it will power up? Then I guess you shut everything down and reconnect the mainboard to the power supply?

From memory I don't remember which force run condition that set works from.

Look up force run and your model on Google, see how you would do it. If the supply comes up and runs without the main, then you have about a 90% likelihood of a bad main.

I just wanted to post an update, in case it is helpful to anyone. I found a reconditioned power supply board (BN44-00200A) on eBay and purchased it. I basically replaced the old Power Supply with this new power supply and now everything is working again. The TV powers up normally, and the clicking on/off issue is resolved.

Thank you to everyone who helped me, and I hope this helps someone else too.

Good job!! You actually got lucky. In every case I've seen with those, if the caps weren't bulged, the problem was the main.

You just solidified why I troubleshoot every TV. Cause and effect troubleshooting isn't really troubleshooting.
