Samsung LCD suddenly dims on partial screen

I have a 17" widescreen Samsung Model #LTN1785W which I am using as a Computer monitor and Television. The unit is only used for maybe one or two hours a day. While in use it will suddenly turn noticeably dimmer on the lower section of the screen. Still watchable, but definitely dimmer than the top half of the screen. If I turn the unit off and then back on it will correct for a short time before it snaps dim again. The dim section normally covers the lower 2" of the screen, although I think it was at one point covering almost the whole bottom half for a short period. This panel is out of warranty and I would appreciate any help I cound find. This problem occurs regardless of the video input being used.
