Samsung LE37R88BD - highlights flaring / glowing

Had the TV around 3 years and been fine until this week. Normally watch TV from Virgin V+ box via HDMI but fault shows on all inputs. 2 days ago switched on and found all highlights / peak whites are flaring / glowing. Have tried adjusting and if I switch from dynamic mode to normal and back off contrast a bit then I can get rid of the problem but now the picture looks washed out.
Samsung talked me through the service menu reset but this had no effect. I don't want to spend lots on repairs when I can get a new TV for around £450.
I have worked in the repair trade for 25 years up until the mid 1990's but I'm a little lost with the new sets !
Any advice whether it would be worth having it looked at or should I put the money towards a new TV?
