Samsung TXE2545 27" TV - Bright Horizontal Green Line - No Sound or Picture. How do I fix??? Can't Post

Hi guys,

I have this 27" Samsung TV and when I turn it on I get nothing but a black screen with a VERY bright perfectly straight Neon Green Line that goes across the exact middle of the screen from Left to Right. I can hear the high pitch noise of a TV as well, but no other sounds, no other pictures. When I press the channel buttons or volume buttons nothing happens.

Any idea what it could be? How much would a shop charge to repair a problem such as this? The TV was manufactured in March 1997.

I look forward to hearing from you guys! Thanks in Advance!

The horizontal line is caused by no vertical deflection. Two possibilities:
1.Something in the vertical deflection system bad or lose connection (yoke, vertical output, vertical osc, or components associated with these devices).
2. The loss of voltages to these circuits. The fact that you have lost audio as well, leans toward a power supply problem or a break in supply voltage to the vertical & audio sections.
You normally don't lose audio with kind of symptom.

SirMack, that model requires a factory modification. There is a resistor in the scan derived power source that opens, causing a loss of vertical deflection and audio. The vertical output IC must be replaced, and the modification performed to prevent future failure. I recommend checking the yellow pages for a Samsung authorized service center. Labor for a 25" TV should be between $80 & $100 depending on your location. Parts should not exceed $25. Hmmm... $125 to repair an older 25" TV, or $200 (or less) for a new one?
