Hi, new here, thanks for reading :) I have a Samsung UN55C6400 that was built in 2010 that I have been using for about5-6 years. it just started this intermittent half screen flickering. I can tell the second the screen starts to come on, because the right upper and lower corners don't have the light coming in as it is on the left side. And then other times it is fine. Is there a simple fix, as I see others on different sets on youtube, snipping a jumper? Of course Samsung tried to help, but they only mentioned the ECO sensor, which I have turned off. And some people say that this $2500 TV was only built for a 5 year life span?? That's $500 a year? Is there is an easy fix fine, but TV is only worth about $300 on EBay, so I am open to trying a self repair. Any ideas from people with this knowledge? Thank You, Larry T.

Does flickering affect OSD/Menu? Back lights or video flickering?

Unplug LVDS cable (from Main to tcon board). Is screen still flickering?

Upgrade Firmware? Only IF is newer than version installed &/or addresses "intermittent half screen flickering."

Doubt is easy fix/cutting jumper. Unless your set matches the Age (vintage)/Brand/Model number series being shown on YouTube, take what's shown with a tongue in cheek.

Thank you for your time to write back, it is greatly appreciated :) I do have a picture of the issue, and a short vid I shot Thursday night. It really shows the problem perfectly from a black and white storm clip on the news. Is there a way to post pics/vids here? Or to get it to you directly? Because it would the perfect scenario where a picture is worth a thousand words. I already did a firmware update as issue was just starting, so that didn't really address issue. Do you know where I can find a parts schematic on this set to identify LDVS and tcon board? or is it really obvious when back is removed, and of course it is intermittent, so hard to so if that disconnect is a fix, or TV just isn't acting up. A firmware update that doesn't specifically address YOUR issue may cause/mask real issue.

OK, cool, I know what to look for. I did try a couple of google searches, but there were too many manuals that came up, and I could not determine which one was for my set, since it didn't simply say samsung UN6400C. It is late out here, so I will get at this tomorrow or Monday. If I can, I will post picture here. OK, I disconnected the LDVS ribbon cable from the tcon board, the backlight flickering still is present. Is there something I can try next?

ok, maybe tomorrow. or perhaps later tonight. you couldn't get an idea from that picture from the news? the black and white seemed to show issue pretty well I thought? about the only thing missing is the flickering that happens on the darker side.

I'm not familiar with that source. A 'known' test picture or an industry standard test pattern would be better. Video showing flashing even better.

Well, I tried to upload a vid with no real success. Basically imagine the darken side of screen flickering. It is basically what you see on pic, and that right side tries to regain backlighting, but flickers as it tries. There are only 3 boards in back, and disconnecting Tcon removed picture altogether.

Don't know how to find such picture. For what it is worth, I followed instructions on picture of back of set you provided. Where it said to disconnect LDVS cable. Both times I could see backlighting solid on left side, and flickering on left ( reverse of front) which I am gussing is saying Tcon board is bad? If in fact the instructions on side of that photo are correct? Is it just a bad T con? And how do I source one, or is this just a shot in the dark??

The only option that can prove if it is back lights is to fully or partially carefully disassemble the LCD panel so that the back light LEDs can be observed directly. Don't forget to inspect any interconnects where strips may attach together.

Edit: Panel picture was to show a second example of an LVDS cable. (Samsung LN40A550P3F)

So you are saying at this point it is not easier to replace Tcon board? Rather to dig into screen itself?

If you read my edit, you now know which Samsung model that that picture addresses. Feel free to Google BOTH models (Yours & the one in the edit) to find out how 'close' they are to one another.

I did a quick lookup on shopjimmy.com and found my Tcon board at only $19.00, but it is out of stock :( For $19-$25, it is almost worth a try to see if it is simply the board. Do you think this is a viable option, since the tcon board controls timing and would it create the flickering to one side? Or am I barking up the wrong tree? The part that makes me wonder, is that the tcon has a right and left ribbon cable, which I am guessing controls the respective halfs of the screen. But I am just a novice, and have no clue as to how a TV actually works.....

Well that is why I am on forum. For advice. Granted, I can't get all the info to you that you need for a solution. And I am just going by an idea that this board is controlling two halves of the screen. I do read the if the problem was a horizontal issue, tcon would not be the problem, so I am just wagering that since it is a vertical issue that starts in the middle of the set, and there are two outputs from the Tcon, R & L, it could be it. But then again, there are 2 leads going up from power supply, to what they address, I don't know. I am just using a bit of reasonable deduction.

And I do want to Thank You for bearing with me as I try to post what I can to evaluate the issue. Perhaps I will just do a quick youtube vid showing the issue happening? Again, I do thank you, and wonder if any others may be following and may have some input. I refuse to believe that samsung built these with a 5 year lifespan only :( If so, that might explain why my elderly mothers Sony is still working after 15 years????

Thanks again. I will get tcon in a week, if it is the problem, great. Otherwise, if it is the panel, I doubt it would be worth it to fix. The tcon is returnable, and I don't even know what a new panel would cost? I'll bet it is more than $300? I don't have a clue, but tearing into the panel is beyond my comfort level.

Is your mothers Sony a early flat screen or more likely a CRT set?

Panel. Don't think you'll find NEW one - Maybe one taken from a 100% working, broken board(s) set. Wink
