Samsung UN60EH6003 no back light help Can't Post

Greetings! I have inherited a 60 inch Samsung LED tv from my uncle after he replaced it because he would turn it on and get sound but no picture. The TV is only a little over 2 years old. Well I can confirm there in picture there if i turn off the lights in the room and take a flash light up to the screen I can see the box in the middle of the screen stating "no signal", which also disapears when i turn the screen back off.

I already tried ordering and replacing the TCON card, which had no effect. Anyone have any ideas how I might be able to get this thing lit up again or should i just go ahead and take a baseball bat to it and cut my losses? lol

I'd love to fix this, but honestly, this is the first time i've even tried. I'm a computer repair/helpdesk technician by day, and an avid gamer by night. I welcome any advice here.

Thank you for your time!
- Mike

Can one assume that the screen flashes bright once and then no more?

Today's LED's use Christmas tree light wiring technique of putting many in series. One burns out, they all go out. Sometimes will take a second series string and put that in series with the first. They then may take one (or more) series strings and put them in parallel with the power source.

This, plus the Manufacturer's are shipping these sets with the backlights set to 100% intensity/100% of the time. (Great picture = but shorter LED lifespan) - Check with your flashlight and see if it isn't so.

You'll need to somehow gain access to the inside of panel so that ALL LEDs can be observed when it attempts to turn on.

'No signal' eliminates second tcon. IF first was NOT showing 'no signal', then surface mount fuse was bad and changing board was one option ... IF first tcon was also showing 'no signal,' then changing board was unnecessary. Both should be good.

Check power/LED driver board AND Main board voltages and signals at plug in connectors - where labeled. (You have board(s) with part numbers and other nomenclature in front of you ... I don't.)

Customer menu with flashlight: Back light intensity? Back light duty cycle? Something along those lines.

ah, a little over my head now hehe. Even if I had a multimeter I wouldn't know where to even begin checking voltages on boards. Thank you for the guidance, i guess ill take it back apart and see what i can figure out.

New development

So I've basically tore this thing down to its barely parts, taking great care with the panel not to break it. I got to the LED backlights and here is was i see:

Initial power up, all LED's light up for a very brief second. then seem like they turn back off. but upon closer inspection they are still just ever so faintly on, its hardly seeable.

I dont have a multimeter but i do have a little electrical outlet tester , i took it and touched both lead to the positive and negative contacts on the very top strip and it lit up the little light, I was not able to get it to light up on any strips below the top strip, however also when i touched the 2 contacts on the first strip, the rest of the strips lit up with the outlet tester. I'm not sure what this tells me, but I'm hoping someone can help guide me?

Thank you for your time.

ok 1 more update, i sat and watched as i turned the tv off and on a few times, The very top LED strip does not flash on for a quick second like the rest do. none of the light on the strip turned on. could I possibly take that strip out of the chain by cutting the end off that wire and twisting them together?

I wouldn't. According to label on PS/LED board you should be dividing over 200 volts between all the LEDs (hopefully around 3 - 4 volts each LED).

You can disconnect strip and take two 1.5 volts flashlight batteries wired in series and connect them to each LED in strip (pay attention to polarity) in turn.

Without a DVM, you can't measure any of these voltages. Local hardware stores should have DVMs for less than 25.00, you should be able to view operation instructions for them online to see if it's within your learning curve.

Thanks again for all your time JTS :)

Won't work for long if the driver insists on pressing the vehicle's accelerator to the firewall the majority of the time.

Did you try the PM I sent?

I tried what you suggested via message but no luck. something else I'd like to note, with or without the top row backlight plugged in the behavior is the same, and the very last 3 lights in the entire chain of LEDS, the bottom right hand corner essentially, the last 3 LED's are lit in progressively dimmer levels, the last one beings the brightest, (not very bright at all, then the second to last and the 3rd to last are both significantly dimmer. I can't seem to see any light on any other LED's in the grid. I wish I knew what this meant if anything lol.

Im going to pick up a battery holder with 2 wires from Radio shack tomorrow, probably see what volt meters they has as well and grab that too if i can afford it.

Thank you,
