Samsung UN70NU6900FXZA black screen

Hi,
I just got a Samsung UN70NU6900FXZA tv from my in-laws. They said it developed some horizontal lines on the screen and they got worse until the screen went completely black. There is no physical damage to the screen that I can see. I took the back off the tv and when I unplug the power board from the main board the lights behind the screen light up. I only see two boards so I am assuming the t-con board is part of the main board. Does this sound like a problem with the main board? I can buy a used main board for around $100 but I want to be more certain that this could be the problem. Thanks,
