Same seller ^^^, but $2.90 + $2.75 S7H , bidding ends on Jun 10, 2012 10:34:25 PDT , so IF you want this deal , you'll have to bid soon...
Tip;...
Wait till the last 5 minutes & THEN make your bid...

Ron

I wait til the last 10 seconds to place a bid that way if someone has an automatic higher bid, I have time to rebid. A lot of times I have looked further down and found a "BUY NOW" which was cheaper than the current high bid.

I'm on dial-up so it takes a bit of time for my bid to get in there...
(I do this to try to beat the "Automatic Bidder"....IF I time it right . I DO...)

I should have acknowledged that he may have a faster connection...

Yes , I too , have found a "Buy it Now" cheaper than a bid...

Re: [Ron.M] Samsung crt tv will not turn on. [In reply to] Can't Post

Got my transistors in the mail yesterday. I got 4 of them for $8 including shipping.
I soldered the first one in, and used some cheap silicone based thermal paste to attach the transistor to the heat sink. Plugged in the TV, and it turned on. It did turn on, but was followed by a zapping sound coming from the transistor.
This made me think the transistor was shorting against the heat sink? So I soldered in a new one, without attaching it to the heat sink and the TV turned on for fifteen minutes, until the transistor shorted out.
Am I attaching the transistor to the heat sink wrong? Or do I have other problems?

SykoMiko;....

Look on the backside of the new transistor & see if there is bare metal covering most of it...
IF so , you need a mica type insulator...
On your original , there may have been a clear mica insulator or a flexible tan or white insulator attached to it...
If there is , carefully peel it off the original , carefully clean it & apply fresh thermal paste to both sides of it & install it between the transistor & the heat sink...
Make sure that none of the bare metal on the backside of the new transistor touches the heatsink...

Good Luck.....

Re: [Ron.M] Samsung crt tv will not turn on. [In reply to] Can't Post

Last night after some digging around, I found the original insulator. So I soldered in a new HOT with the insulator and thermal grease. VIOLA
It turned on, and stayed on!
I did notice a couple odd things also...
There's red and green "splotches" on the screen. Like how it looks when you put a magnet near it.
I also heard a "crackling" sound coming from the neck area. It sounds like high voltage arcing maybe?
If I put my arm near that area, my arm hairs stood up, like there's a lot of static electricity...is this normal?

SykoMiko;....

This is getting to be a "knit one , pearl two" type deal ....
IF you are as old as dirt , you'll understand that ....

Anyways...
One more problem solved & 2 more to go....
(Good thing you got 4 transistors !!!!!)....
The "splotches most likely are due to the "Degausing" coil being unplugged (On the TV) , the "Degausing" thermistor being bad , or bad CRT....
Were these "splotches" there before the TV went out ???...

Is the "crackling" sound constant or do you just hear it when you turn the TV on ????...
What "area" EXACTLY do you tease suicide with when you put your arm near it ????..
Depending on where & when you get this , it may be OK ....

I'm not sure what knitting has to do with televisions??
Anyways the crackling is only when it comes on and after it turns off, so i'm thinking it's just static.

I don't remember the red and green splotches being there before.
ALSO noticed that the picture is bent at the corners. Do you know what I mean? I can take a picture if not, but the picture curves, as if it were bent back in the corners. I did try to adjust some of the screws on the flyback transformer, but no adjustments made it look better

SykoMiko;....

Knitting has nothing to do with TVs...
It's a proverb type saying that applies...

The crackling appears to be normal HV coming up when you turn the TV on & going down when you turn the TV off...
I wouldn't worry about it unless it gets worse or louder...

There are NO adjustments on or for the flyback....
(Only possibly Screen or G2 & Focus)
Do NOT adjust them !!!!

Yes , pix are going to help....
Around the outside of the CRT is a LARGE coil wrapped on both sides of the CRT...
Usually it will be black in color...
There will be a wire connected to it that runs down to the chassis...
I would appreciate a pix of the area where that wire connects to the chassis...
Also will need to see pix of the "blotches" & the "bending or curves" in the corners...
PLEASE TRY to take GOOD , CLEAR & IN FOCUS pix.....THANKS....Smile...
BEFORE you post the pix , click on "Preview Post" & check the post & pix size...
NONE of us here have IMAX monitors , so IF the pix is REAL WIDE , PLEASE delete the pix & post a link to the pix instead....THANKS....Smile...

I can not find a manual for this TV so I'm at a bit of a disadvantage with tech info...

Electrotanya has a K63A chassis manual that is 25 MBs & will take 2 hours or more for me to download...Unimpressed....
I'm thinking about it ....

Look around for any loose unconnected wires...

Also , run the TV for about 15~20 minutes , unplug it & check to see if the new transistor is getting abnormally hot...
Do this by licking a fingertip & then gradually touching the heatsink...
Post results....THANKS...Smile....

ok I got pictures up....

Here is a picture where the gausing coil plugs into the chassis (the bottom plug is power):
http://imageshack.us/f/163/sung2.jpg/

Here are the red and green spots. Also, part of the left side of the picture is cut out, so you can't see the whole menu.... see what I mean?:
http://imageshack.us/...images/99/sung1.jpg/

And here you can see bending in the corners. This is a picture of the right side, but the same thing is happening on the left side too:
http://imageshack.us/...images/10/sung3.jpg/

All wires and plugs are in their proper places, I will test to see if the HOT is getting really hot later tonight. Let me know what ya think

From what I see in your pix , it looks like a problem with the yoke or in part of the HV out circuit....
I need straight & honest answers;...
Did you tamper or try to adjust ANY of the following;=>...
Did you accidentally or otherwise move ANY of the tabs on the yoke ???
Did you for ANY reason loosen the screw at the end of the yoke ???
Is the yoke FULLY pushed up against those black wedges ???}
Check ALL wedges...
NO GAPS !!!!

Please post results ..THANKS...Sly...

Re: [Ron.M] Samsung crt tv will not turn on. [In reply to] Can't Post

Yes, before replacing the HOT, I moved the tabs around a bit. Not sure why I did. Also, after reading your last post I thought it might be a good idea to go try and adjust them again to see if it helps. Well I think I might have broken something because the tabs just kind of loosely hang there now. Before they felt pretty snug.

The screw I did not loosen or adjust.

Checked the gaps by the wedges. Looks like there's somewhere between 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch gap on the left and right side.

Did I screw this up by breaking the tabs or this still fixable?

In 2 words , yes & maybe...(The TV , NOT the yoke)...
Yes , you screwed up the yoke...
You've broken the rings that have to do with purity , linearity , centering , etc...
There's no way to fix those...
Your level of expertise will not be enough for you to replace the yoke & do the neccessary adjustments to get the pix right...
A TV repair shop WILL be EXPENSIVE...

Re: [Ron.M] Samsung crt tv will not turn on. [In reply to] Can't Post

Welll....I'm not going to throw in the towel quite yet...

Some one (maybe the manufacturer) drew a red line down the side of the rings. One ring in the middle is stationary, which allows me to line up the other marks on the other rings. It did improve the picture somewhat.
only problem with that is , since I broke the rings earlier, It's difficult to get them to stay in their proper places. I'm thinking of doing a ghetto fix by applying a thin layer of hot glue across the top of the rings to keep them in place.

Also read this interesting article
http://wa6ati.com/DX2P.pdf

I think I might be able to adjust it so that the picture doesn't bend TOO bad

Re: [SykoMiko] Samsung crt tv will not turn on. [In reply to] Can't Post

SykoMiko;....

The red line was drawn at the factory by a tech after final adjustments were made...
It is an excellent starting point , providing the rings ARE intact & NOT broken...
You should get some improvement with your method , however , will it be enough for you to be satisfied with to watch....
Being that the rings are broken & the magnetic field that was installed in each ring at the factory is now interrupted in each fragment , I seriously doubt that you will get good results...
But , you live & you learn....

Hot glue or silicon will work.

The widescreen CRT's from Samsung must have a signal before attempting any alignments. I can't remember the exact configuration, but the yoke is connected to the signal circuits and manipulated by them. With out a stable signal, there won't be a stable waveform through the purity coils.

You live and learn. Very true, I will not be making the mistake of adjusting seemingly unimportant parts anytime soon.

I think I am going to stay away from CRT TVs after learning they are extremely dangerous, and shouldn't be attempted to be repaired by the average DIYer.

My final adjustments to the TV, did help a little, but it still has this fish eye lens look to it, accompanied with the red and green areas. It's not too terrible to look at, but not great

http://imageshack.us/...images/528/q12r.jpg/
http://imageshack.us/f/688/q11p.jpg/

It's A LOT better than the TV being unable to even turn on which is what I had when I started!
Thanks again everyone for your help and knowledge
I hope maybe this thread can help other people as well

The linearity problems can be corrected by getting into service menu per the Samsung K63A service manual which you can download from elektrotanya.com. Normally, I do not recommend a novice access the service menu but since you have come this far, what the heck Download the service manual, not the training manual.

You saw what he has done so far & you want him to experiment further & possibly convert that TV to a boat anchor ...
He at least has a TV that he can watch...
The pix he has now is NOT that bad...
Leave a sleeping dog lie...
He has BROKEN rings that you & I BOTH know can NOT be compensated for by any Factory Menu adjustments...
He knows NOTHING about which adjustments are for what problem/circuit/feature/function etc...

I strongly suggest you use ther TV as is...
