Samsung pcj534rf 54" convergence MUTE, 1 8 3 Can't Post

I received this samsung pcj534rf for free over the weekend. It has a convergence problem. The blue will not manually move over to line up with the cross hairs. It will move to the left, but it will only move so far to the right. This TV came out in 1999.
Also, this happened after it was moved. It was just fine up until now.
I think I need to replace the convergence board, but I don't know where it is located in the tv and I don't know where to buy it from. Keep in mind that I have no experience working on tv's, but I do work on PC's. I called a local tv repair shop and they said that it would cost me between $280 and $600 to fix.
Please help,
Thanks

Re: [iskor12] Samsung pcj534rf 54" convergence problem, please help. [In reply to] Can't Post

I just found out about a hidden convergence menu in my Samsung pcj534rf. With the tv being on, press mute, 1, 8, 3. I can then adjust my convergence. I can't however figure out how to save my changes and exit out of it. If anyone knows how to save for this model, please help.
ThanksSmile

I now have a copy of the service manual. Leave your email address if you need a copy.

If you can get the convergence lined up and ONLY IF YOU CAN GET IT LINED UP you can save the changes by pressing one of the buttons on the remote below the buttons used to adjust (not sure which one every model is slightly different) Try pressing various buttons while it the convergence mode and if you get the correct one the screen will display 'ROM WRITE' another button will display 'ROM READ' if you find 'ROM READ' this will read the old settings before you started adjusting & will undo all the adjustments you've just made so you will want to find the 'ROM WRITE' button, this will write the new settings once you have them adjusted to where you want. Once you find this button you will have to press it 3 times I believe before it actually saves the new settings. These buttons are not labeled as 'ROM READ and 'ROM WRITE' , they are usually the Fast Forward & Rewind or PIP etc. ... As I said at the top do not save settings unless they are lined up or you'll pay some shop much higher prices to fix your error by saving incorrect convergence settings

Another possible way is pressing the Add/Erase to save data

warm up tv for about 30 minutes
with remote,press: MUTE-1-8-3 ( to exit,press S.MODE key )
the following remote keys are for convergence:
# 7 to select RED color
# 8 GREEN
# 9 BLUE
# +100 to MUTE RED
# 0 MUTE GREEN
# PRE-CH MUTE BLUE
# 3 to CANCELL without save
# 5 FINE/COARSE select
# DISPLAY check tv to see if it's in conv.mode
# 4 LINE SHIFT
# 2 FACTORY DEFAULT DATA
# TV/VIDEO to swich direction of cursor
# ADD/ERASE to SAVE DATA
# S.MODE EXIT
# MUTE to MOVE CURSOR
# P.MODE to move cursor in reverse direction
CHANEL UP/DOWN,VOL up/Down for ADjustments
# 1 DATA ZERO
# 6 haft adjustment ( for improvement of minor adj.)

hope this help.good luck -- Dan

I have managed to get it perfectly alligned before and I wasn't able to save it. My controller doesn't have the add/erase button. I will try the fast forward button and the other sugestions you had and I will let you know what I come up with.
Thanks for your help, it is very appreciated.
Heath

I have tried every button on my controller and none of them worked.
Although it didn't work, I do appreciate your help.
Thanks,

Give your email address. I will send you the Service manual for my Specific Tv. It shows a controller that is similar to the one that came with the tv, but it isn't the same one. My controller is missing the Add/Erase button that it says to use in order to save. Are there any universal controllers that you know of that would have this button?

Stand by or Power. I only have Power and I have tried using it and nothing saves. I am running out of options. I think I may as well bend over and pay $280+ (actual estimate) to have a profesional fix it.Frown

Thanks, I appreciate all sugestions and help,
Heath
