Sanyo DP32648 Lightning Hit Can't Post

Hello again all.
I just got in 2 Sanyo DP32648 TV's. They both have the exact same symptoms. They power on, green LED on the front comes on for about 5 seconds then turns off. The LCD does not light up at all.
I have visually inspected the boards and cannot find any ovbious signs of damage.
I have done testing to the extent of my knowledge at this point....
The power supply board is not putting out 12V or 24V. The 5V line is reading ok,, and the PSON does go to 5V when the power switch is turned on.
Any advice on were to look from here would be greatly appreciated. Should I keep looking at the power board or should I start testing other boards?
Thank you in advance,
Josh
P.S. I am going to do some fishing for a few hours and will be back to check... If I catch a big one Ill post a pic.

Could always use your own 12 and 24 volt supplies to bypass suspect supplies, presuming they can provide sufficient current. IF set works normally, that would cinch the PS as the culprit you should concentrate on. Wink

Hmmmm,,, The only bench top power supply I have is one I made from an old pc power supply for building and testing PIC chip circuits.... Im not sure it would supply enough power.

Go to elektrotania.com and download the service manual for Sanyo DP32649. I looks the same as the manual for DP27648 so I'm assuming they are at least similar to the ones that you are working on. I didn't find them to be much help but it will at least give you a starting point.

Automotive battery should be close enough to 12V. Two in series would be 24V. Just for "testing purposes" you understand. Should provide more than enough "power." Cool

I just did "elektrotania.com" plug in the model number, scroll down to the bottom of the page and wait for the message to download the manual. You might find this site to be extremely useful.

Is it elektrotanya.com you are referring me to? When I go to elektrotania.com I get a page that has nothing to do with manuals, as well it sets off my anti-virus as trying to load a trojan.

Re: [jts1957] Sanyo DP32648 Lightning Hit [In reply to] Can't Post

Ok so Ive got the manual and I believe im on the right track.
From the manual:

If any of these voltages is low, the power failure detector

should turn the unit off within three seconds.

If power failure is detected 3 times in 15 minutes,

the set will enter the standby mode and cannot be

switched On.To reset the operating programs of the

SUB-CPU it is necessary to disconnect the AC cord

for a short time.

Facts so far: Turn power on,,Green light comes on for 10 seconds and goes off. After the third try the power will not come back on unless the unit is unplugged then plugged back in.
I am now going to track down the above mentioned circuits and measure the voltages.

Hopefully WITHOUT "slipping" and shorting any adjacent pins and releasing the "Magic Smoke" like the guy on Badcaps did. Wink

Re: [ozman911] Sanyo DP32648 Lightning Hit [In reply to] Can't Post

Ok,, Kinda hit a wall here. If I cam correct IC800 (sub-cpu) pins 48 and 23 should go high when you turn the set on. If not the set powers down due to a failure. I have checked the voltage on both pins. Pin 48 stays a constent .15V with the power on and off. Pin 23 stays a constant .85v with the power on or off.
No going further I believe I am supposed to test the voltages on IC1620, 1670, 1640. However I cannont find these on my main board. Also componets are not on the diagram that are on my board so I am thinking this model DP32649 is using a different main board than mine DP32648.
So if the 48 and 23 pins on the IC800 are not going high would that indicate a main board problem or a power supply problem?
If the PSON pin on the Power Supply is going to 5V when turned on this indicates the main board is sending the correct turn on signal,,, However if the power supply is not turning on then the IC800 senses this and shuts down the complete system... Does this sound correct?

ok so some more information here. On the power supply is a cable that goes to the main board with the following pin lables.
24v (Measures 0v with power button on, and .18 with power button on)
24v (Same as above)
SGRND
SGRND
12v (Measures .10 with power button OFF, and .12 with power button on)
12v (Same as above)
SGRND
SGRND
5v (Measures 5v with power button on and off)
5v (Same as above)
SGRND
SGRND
PSON (Measures 0v with power button off, 5V power button on)

Did you check BOTH elektrotanya schematics (SANYO DP26648 & DP32649) for board part numbers and compare to yours?

You sir are a genius,,, :) seems the DP26648 is the same Main board. However I am leaning toward the power supply being the problem. I dont have alot of tools at my disposal but I do have my trusty MM. I just checked both MOV's on the power board and they show open. With the meter set on the Mega ohms setting I get no reading. I know MOV's have a high resistance but they shouldnt be above my meters range should they?

OK,, moving on leaving them out for the moment.. ( I know have a much more solid understanding of MOV's :) )
I have been trying to trace back the voltages but having to press the power button every 10 seconds is a real pain... on one of the tv's I tried a small jumper from the 5v standby to the PSON,,, Bang! went the main fuse to my surprise... I replaced the fuse and all Im back were I began.
Any suggestions on items to check for voltage / operation?
I have checked all the resistors and diodes I can find... There is one in question. It is a small greay resistor with 5 bands, Brown, Black, Silver, Gold, Black,, This seems like a weird color code to me.. It measure almost no resistance (.4 Ohms).

Try measuring RESISTANCE on the 12 & 24 supply lines.

The transformer for the 5v standby is working...
I know you said resistance but im not exactly sure where you mean for me to test.. so in the meantime I did the following.
However the larger transform is getting low power (40v or so) when the power button is off,, when the power button is pressed the transformer recieves 120v. But the is no output from it,,, would this indicate a bad transformer?

MadOk, replaced all the caps, replaced the bad mosfet, check ALL diodes, mosfets, bridge, FB's, MOV's. I think Im going to have to admit defeat for tonight. Still the same problem and symtoms that I began with.

and

Between 24v & SGRND
