Sharp Aquos will not power on - LC-52D64U Can't Post

Hello,

I'm hoping to find some help here. I have a 52" Sharp Aquos LC-52D64U that will not power on. My first thing to replace was the main board, but that didn't fix the problem. Then I replaced all 4 backlight inverter boards, and still didn't fix the problem.

When I do [Vol-]+[input] and plug the TV in, I get a click, 3 flashes of light on the screen, and then another click.

Any suggestions? I'm just about to give up on this TV, but would prefer to fix it!

Thanks

Nothing on the OPC. Power light flashes briefly approx every 1.5 seconds

Pattern you mention does NOT appear in SM.

Could have bad bulb(s).
Could have acquired defective Main board.

Did it have a LED flash code BEFORE you changed anything?

It was doing the same thing before I changed anything. I just took a video of it and you can hear the clicks and see the screen flash. You can also see that it does display the blue input box in the upper-right when it flashes. Here's the video: http://youtu.be/gAXmzaoxtqk

Does the set & LEDs behave differently when in 'normal' operation vs. 'adjustment process mode?'

ONLY mention I can find to a continuously flashing power LED. So brings up the question was an upgrade attempted at any point?
5. After the unit startup, the upgrade starts. The power led will blink continuously. Also, an upgrade screen will be shown during a minor upgrade.

If I just plug the TV in, the power LED immediately starts that same blinking frequency. The only time I get it to do anything different is when I hold the vol- and input when plugging it in.

I've never attempted to upgrade anything with the TV. This problem started after a power outage. The TV was on, then our power went out, and when the power came back on, the TV would not turn on. It was plugged into a surge suppressor at the time.

3. Entering and exiting the adjustment process mode - This IS the 'adjustment process mode' entering procedure.
1) Before entering the adjustment process mode, the AV position RESET in the video adjustment menu.
2) While holding down the “VOL (–)” and “INPUT” keys at a time, plug in the AC cord of the main unit to turn on the power.
The letter “<K>” appears on the screen.
3) Next, hold down the “VOL (–)” and “CH (\/ )” keys at a time.
(The “VOL (–)” and “CH (\/ )” keys should be pressed and held until the display appears.)
Multiple lines of blue characters appearing on the display indicate that the unit is now in the adjustment process mode.
When you fail to enter the adjustment process mode (the display is the same as normal startup), retry the procedure.

4) To exit the adjustment process mode after the adjustment is done, unplug the AC cord from the outlet to make a forced shutdown. (When the
power was turned off with the remote controller, once unplug the AC cord and plug it again. In this case, wait 10 seconds or so before plugging.)
CAUTION: Use due care in handling the information described here lest your users should know how to enter the adjustment process mode. If the
settings are tampered in this mode, unrecoverable system damage may result.

Is the Youtube video just plugging cord into AC? (normal startup)
Or
Pressing keys while plugging cord into AC? (an attempt to put set into the adjustment process mode)

The YouTube video is with plugging the TV in while holding the [VOL -] and [INPUT] on the control panel on the TV itself. This causes the TV to flash a few times, but never shows the "<K>" on the screen.

In YouTube I see a solid green LED until relay clicks, then flashes (forever, I presume).

In normal operation then, there are NO relay clicks, NO screen flash and the green LED flashes continuously?

That's correct. If I just plug the TV in, it just starts that same flashing on the power LED and there are no clicks nor flashes on the screen.

Well, provided that the Main and Inverter boards you received are 'good,' next to try would be Power.

Is there a way I could test the power board before buying a replacement?

About all you could do is chart the voltages at each pin of each connector. You would need to measure each at plug in (Standby) - then attempt to turn on set (Normally) and note what happens to each. You would then need to do the exact same thing while set attempts to turn on in the 'adjustment process mode' (Service). Looking at the Shop Jimmy pictures of the board and not so easy to follow or search schematics in the Service Manual, the only time you must be careful of which ground you reference is on connector 'PE.' Otherwise use the ground associated with the connector under test. You can skip AC connector.

Yikes. I apparently misunderstood the names of the boards. I thought that was the main board, but it's the power board. I thought the power board was the one that the power cord plugs into. So it appears that I have replaced the power board and all 4 inverter boards. The clicking sounds like it is coming from the power board. Does this mean I should try replacing the actual main board? Thank you very much for all your help so far!

RUNTKA317WJQZ AC INLET Unit

DUNTKE558FM01S MAIN Unit

Still might be worthwhile to see if any power supply voltages or commands missing or low before trying Main.

Your call. But IF you do decide to get Main, Be sure to obtain the correct version and be sure that the two jumper blocks have the jumper in the same positions as original.

Which is the correct board part number to search by (on eBay)? On my board, I see "FM51S", "KE558", and "XE558WJ". Do all those numbers need to match? And mine is version "H", so does that mean I need to replace it with a version H?

Re: [ryanc] Sharp Aquos will not power on - LC-52D64U [In reply to] Can't Post

YOU should have CORRECTED me when I gave you a board number / link for another board. Bear in mind YOU have the set in front of you and apparently this model had a board compliment change at a particular serial number. Unsure I now have the revised service literature.
(This service manual is issued since the main and side PWBs used for LC-42/46/52D64U have been changed. For the product where the main and
side PWBs have been changed, refer to the following serial No. for each model.
Model name/Serial No. LC42D64U: 712851112~/LC46D64U: 712891112~/LC52D64U: 712871112~.)

This is the correct Shop Jimmy link:
http://www.shopjimmy.com/...fm01s-main-board.htm

I'm reasonably sure that their information is correct an that they can answer your version/questions even if they can't supply the board.
