Sharp LC-60LE650U has horizontal line Can't Post

I have a Sharp Aquos LC-60LE650U 60" LCD TV which recently developed a very slender horizontal line which extended from one side of the TV to about half way across the screen. It appeared on every channel I tried and it would appear dark on light backgrounds and light on dark backgrounds. The line itself could be any color; not just black or white. I'm enrolled in a protection plan and my TV is going to be replaced with a Vizio. Sharp no longer makes my particular model (bought in November of 2013) but this Vizio seems comparable.

In any case, I'm under no obligation to return the Sharp and I was considering just using it in another room where it would only get occasional use. All of this happened in the last few days.

Tonight, I'm still watching the Sharp and I noticed something that makes me think this thing could be repairable after all: if I'm watching a TV show in standard definition, there is a black border all the way around the picture. There is no line in the border. The line only begins where the picture begins.

This tells me that there's probably nothing wrong with the panel itself but rather the signal being fed to the panel. If that's the case, either a board or just a component needs replacement. Surely that could be done without breaking the bank. Am I wrong? Could someone point me in the right direction?

The line is around the bridge of his nose on both of these.

Here's one in high definition; the line is much more obvious:

Re: [Jay Hanig] Sharp LC-60LE650U has horizontal line [In reply to] Can't Post

This exact same issue happened with my TV a couple of days ago. I also have a Sharp Aquos LC-60LE650U, but unfortunately mine is no longer under warranty. The thin black line extends about 3/4 of the way across the screen and is always there -- regardless of which input or screen resolution is selected. Any help would be much appreciated!
I have seen posts (elsewhere) regarding replacement of the T-Con board (which seems easy and economical enough) but not sure how reliable these suggestions are.
Mine looks like this...

IMPORTANT: Horizontal lines on the screen are virtually NEVER caused by a bad T-con board. Horizontal lines indicate a defective LCD panel (screen).

Re: [jts1957] Sharp LC-60LE650U has horizontal line [In reply to] Can't Post

I have read that bad t-con boards seldom are the problem with horizontal lines. What I don't understand is why the left hand 4-5" of my screen no longer show any lines if the directv receiver is tuned to a standard def channel?

It only shows the line all the way over to the edge of the screen if I'm in high def mode. And then the line varies colors with the background of the picture. The line is darker than the background when the background is light and vise versa. But in standard def, the left hand side of the "letterbox frame", if you will is a good solid black all the way around the screen, like you'd want it to be.

It seems to me that if the issue is the screen itself, wouldn't it always show the line all the way over to the edge of the TV, like it does when it's in high def?
Thanks,
Jay

Hello Jay~
It appears that anywhere the screen is black the line does not show -- because in these areas the line itself is black too. For example when I am watching a film in letterbox format my screen appears normal, because the error (line) is below the bottom of the image in the black area.

Our problems are similar but not identical. If you look at my third photo (the one in high def), you'll note my line is made up of many colors, not just black.
