Sony KP-51WS500 repair help Can't Post

I recently came into possetion of this set. My fathers neighbor offered it to him for free, as it was broken. Unwilling to fix it, he gave it to me. The person he got the tv from was quoted $300 to fix it, I would rather fix it myself if its somthing I can do. So I get the tv home, plug it in, and surpisingly I do see a picture, however there was about a 2" black bar at the bottom of the picture, and it looked as if there was a blue transparency laid ontop of it. As I mess around with it, the blue "transparency" gets more and more solid. Eventually it turned to a completly blue screen, with white arched lines running horizontaly. It also developed some sort of static look to it. Oddly enough, my menus still look fairly normal...I dont know what that means. I took pictures hoping it would help, and knowing it would be rather hard to acuratly describe how it looked. Thank you for any help you can offer.

From the picture, I'd seen enough you can do nothing about and hope you won't insist of pursuing. DLP's are the worst case scenario in television. Besides your effort lifting a trash, hope you can find it easier to dispose it. and feel better.

I was told by the tv repair shop that it is very fixable. It is also not a DLP, its a CRT.

Please not again on this site, ITS rear projection, using three projection tubes. No CRT no colour wheel.

I'm sorry, I did not mean to start an arguement, I was just a little angry. I thought these forums were for repair help, but the first reply I got was...throw the tv away, how would that make you feel? Anyway, I have an update on the problem.
I was able to turn down the blue knob on the focus block and now have picture. I still have pretty bad retrace lines that are horizontal and wavy, and the black bar at the bottom of the screen. Im not quite sure what this indicates but I thought it may help.

It works.....I had a problem with my 5 year old Sony 57 inch HD Model KP57WV600, picture ok when turning on then turning to blue then reddish color....I did what others advised in this forum.....removed 10 screws (5 each side of speaker) and pushed down and away the plastic with hard tug....it came off.....unscrewed 4 screws holding plywood then adjusted 3 screws (bottom 3 screws) Don't touch top 3 screws.....anyway turned the 3 bottom screws a hare and BINGO, picture is awesome, better than new.....I saved $75 service call.....thank you thank you....RaiderBill9
