Sony Trinitron, indicator light just blinks twice Can't Post

I have a 2003 Sony Trinitron TV, model: KV-27FV310, the last few days I’ve needed to hit the power button several times to get the picture to turn on. Now the picture doesn’t come on at all, the red indicator light just blinks twice, pauses and repeats.

When the power button is clicked (either on TV or remote) I hear 2 double clicks but not the buzz when the tube normally comes on.

I’ve done the power & factor resets still get the same.
Nothing is plugged into TV and dish network is working on other TVs.

Can someone tell me what the double blink stands for, will it be expensive to have it fixed or should I just look for a new TV?

Thanks much, tkh

Update: After leaving it unplugged for a day it started to work again until I turned it off, now it’s back to doing what I listed above.

That depends on who is going to work on the TV , you or a TV repair shop....

How much electronic/TV repair background experience do you have ????

There are a variaty of causes for this problem...
NONE of which will cost you your firstborn or your right arm...Wink...

I have the service manual for your TV & IF you have some experience with electronic/TV repair , I can guide you to the problem & hopefully you can fix it....

Hi Ron....

Thanks for your reply, I do have to say that the TV came back on after being unplugged for several hours and clicking the on/off button several times but fear that it will stop working again once its turned off.

As to answer your question: I have no experience in electronic/TV repair but am great at following simple clear directions.

Glad “NONE of which will cost you your firstborn” as I have no children, will give up my left arm but not my right. Crazy

Thanks for what help you can offer, tkh

That could indicate a thermal problem with a lytic cap or possibly a bad solder connection...

That's a big problem...
You'll need to recognize basic TV parts & how to check them...
You may have a bad lytic cap & will need to know what that is...
You'll also need a DVM to read ohms & take voltage readings...
There is also the possibility that you could have cold soldered PC connections & will need some experience soldering & desoldering....
You will need to know the difference between a bad solder connection & a good one...
There is more , but , if you can't get past those hurdles , you are fighting a losing battle....
SORRY..

Ron I think you may be correct on being a losing battle as this is most definitely over my head. Tongue

Now I just need to determine if I should find a honest repair center in my area or just invest in a newer model...hummmm

Thanks again for all your help…tkh

Thanks for your honesty...
It would have taken forever for me to try & teach you how to identify parts & check them , then for you to do the tasks....

That would be your best bet...
Shouldnt be hard to find a honest TV tech....
See if you can get a free or cheap estimate...
Then you can decide on a new one or not...
Your set was made around 2001...
IF you have a good pix & sound & the estimate IS reasonable , I'd get the set fixed...
Reason is that these newer sets are for the most part crap & do NOT have the life span the older TVs have...
A vast majority of the flat panel TVs are made in China , can be difficult to get parts &/or service on , etc...

But as I've said many times before;...
It's your TV....
It's your money...
It's YOUR call.....

GOOD LUCK....Cool...

Have a great day & weekend....Sly...
