Bad degaussing (needs: thermistor or solder joint), or TV was dropped (needs: Picture Tube).Wink

i assume the degaussing coil works since it makes the familar 'buzz' when i turn it on. i removed the back and everything internal looked fine. to my knowledge it was never dropped. i did take my wifes hair dryer and ran it around the screen like i had heard about before and where i had the motor of the hair dryer the discoloration went away but as soon as i moved the hair dryer it came back.

Don't mess with the thick red wire (or cap on bell of tube).

Follow degaussing coil (thick bundle of wire that usually wraps around the perimeter of tube) wires down to where they plug into a socket on the board. Check that the plug is plugged in and that the thermistor is intact and that the solder joints on foil side of the board at the same location look good.

Re: [ggoodell2] Sony Trinitron picture/color issue [In reply to] Can't Post

Once the CRT is degaused (hair dryer), the purity should stay OK until the set is moved. Otherwise, the symptoms you show appear to be the result of a shift in the shadow mask in the CRT which can result from a shrp jolt to the tube. This cannot be repaired short of changing the tube.

Just because someone hears the sound of a train rolling through their town, that doesn't prove anything. It could be someone driving through town with his P.A. amplifier on imitating one. The nearest tracks are thirty miles away.Cool
