Static electricity trips TV breaker Can't Post

Morning,
Samsung 19" TV. Every day when I plug the headphones into the tv's headphone jack, the static electricity snaps from the plug to the jack. It's enough to trip the set's overload and off goes the set [resets itself in 1-2 seconds]. This, every day, can't be good for the set. There are two audio/video RCA jacks right beside it. Hoping they all 3 shared the same common ground, I grounded one of the RCA outer shells to the wall outlet. Didn't help at all [still snaps/trips]. It just produced a light humming noise through the headset so I deep-sixed that idea. Any thoughts on what else to try? It can't be coming from me because I only hold onto the plug at the large plastic insulated end; no metal at all.
Thanks,
Mike

Yes, I do that at times. Thing is, the TV has usually been on for a couple hours already. So then it's turn the TV off, plug in the phones, turn the TV right back on again. Just feels odd doing that. But yes I can do that.
Thanks,
Mike
