Sylvania SRT222TX TV sensor not working Can't Post

I have the SRT2227X. The TV works fine in general. However, when I try to use the remote control, the TV does not respond. I have to use the buttons on the TV for power, volume control, etc. Unfortunately, the geniuses at Sylvania did not put a menu button the TV. Without the remote control, I can't switch to input (i.e., a DVD player for example)

The remote control white buttons light up when I try to use the buttons, so I know the remote has power, good batteries, etc. I also tried 2 Philips universal remotes and an old radio shack universal remote. At this point I think the problem is the sensor on the TV, but I can't be too sure.

There is a relevant discussion at the ecoustics forum:

I have a Sylvania SRT2227X that I can no longer get in to GAME mode, so I can't watch DVD's anymore. I'm on a very limited budget and bought a $6 universal remote which I can't get to work (found this forum searching for Sylvania tv codes). My old remote still lights up and I'm now thinking that it's the infrared receiver that's broken and not the remote. So I don't want to put any more money into remotes. I'm going to try routing the DVD through the VCR and see if I can watch it that way. Will let everyone know if it works.

yea ive been having the same problem as some of you peoples... i have a 20" SRT2220P. one day i was watching tv and the remote was working, hours later the remote would not work. the remote lights up... and i can use the tv itself, but obviously the sensor isn't picking up. i wonder if anyone can help all of us!?

So what should I do? How much do you think it would cost for TV repair? Would it be worth it?

If dropped, these remotes can still appear to be functioning but the crystal inside that determines it's frequency will change in value causing the remote to not control the TV.

These remotes are available on eBay for around $15 (just enter SRT2227X into the search box at eBay).

Heres a simple trick, most people have cell phones with cameras, or a digital camera, simply aim the remote at the camera and push buttons, the camera should allow you to see the remotes LED sencer flashing if the remote is working

The trick worked. I could see the remote control sensor flashing through my cell phone camera. Since I have already tried 2 different universal remotes as well, it would seem to me that it is more likely that the tv sensor is the problem instead of the remote control.

I have 2 issues with this problem:
1) no ability to remotely control the channels and volume
2) no ability to switch to an input at all

For the second issue, I think I can use an RF transmitter that connects through the TV cable. Would that let me connect to a DVD player by switching to channel 3 using the TV buttons? can someone please confirm that will work?

For the first issue, I guess I need to know how much an estimated repair would be, so that I can decide whether the problem is worth the cost of repair.

I live in Cleveland.

the cost of the I/R sensor will be about $2-3 or £5GBP.if you can solder it is only 3 pins.you will find it behind the front I/R window n the front board of the tv.

I guess I should have mentioned that I am not knowledgeable enough to do the repair myself. Any idea how much a tv repair shop should charge?

First you might want to check the remote using this technique.

You will need to have a digital camera for this. Phone Camera is just okay.

Put the camera in picture mode and then point the remote to camera and then press buttons on remote, If you see the glow in the remote sensor in the camera LCD that means the remote is working and it is sending out I/R signals, If you do not see any glow in the camera then it is disfunctional.

The trick here is that the digital camera can see I/R rays but human eye can not.

Good luck.

100 should cover it if you take the tv in yourself. a call out will obviously be more expensive. why not phone around for an estimate.
