Thompson Roadstar problems with tuning

I have a Thompson Roadstar TV Type 408/TX 91 GB 10 MH 73 B. The set will no longer hold it's stored channels. It can automatically search for a station successfully but is then incapable of storing it against a channel number. Am I correct in assuming the frequency is stored on some form of memory chip. Any help would be appreciated
