Toshiba 20A42 Questions Can't Post

Greetings. My wife and I have an old Toshiba CRT unit (model 20A42, made circa 2000-2002) which has lasted with no problem up till now. The pilot light and circuitry behind the power button now click and flash several times (sometimes for 15 minutes) before engaging; the picture then takes 30-60 seconds to show up.

We tried leaving it on for fear it would stop engaging permanently, but are now getting severe squiggles across the picture.

We're not quite ready to buy a new LCD TV yet, so we were wondering:

(1) Does leaving it on present any burnout, overheat or explosion hazards?

(2) Would turning it off to rest the tube help with the squiggles?

(3) If we again got the repeated clicking when turning it on, would that present any burnout, overheat or explosion hazards?

Thanks -- JJ57

Thanks, but a unit this old I don't think is worth repairing. I'm just wondering about any safety issues per my OP while we wait to get a new unit.

Thanks -- JJ57
