Toshiba 40l1333db TV Backlight Issue HELP! Can't Post

Hi Guys

I am writing because I have Toshiba 40l1333db TV however the back light will not work so the picture is black. When the TV Powers on the back light flashes for a second but then goes off and stays off. I opened the back up and replaced the power board with a used one I bought from eBay as I thought this was the issue. This actually did fix the problem and the TV was working fine for a week or so but now the same thing has happened again. Could someone possibly tell me what this means or how I can fix it please any help would be greatly appreciated.

Reinstall the original board and see if it works fine for a week or so ... or immediately resumes the back light flashes for a second but then goes off.

IF sound continues to work once screen has gone dark, I bet you'll find one or more LEDs inside LCD Panel are bad. IF you can access customer controls I'll bet the back light intensity level is at or near Maximum.

Hi

I dont have the original board to put back in I got rid of it as I thought it was broken. If it was the backlight/bulbs that were the problem then why would replacing the power board fix the issue for a week or so ? Is there anything I can do to fix this ?

Thanks for your reply by the way

Good thing you're not a mortician. Wink

Gremlins? The intricacies of uncertainties? Stray capacitance? (Some more ideas at link below)

1) Replace the TV;
2) Replace the LED bulb(s) or strip(s); Test by optically proving that one or more LED(s) or strip(s) ARE defective.

Hi thanks for the reply

I'm not sure what you are talking about to be honest and I have seen gremlins.

The link you provided nothing seems to be coming up. I was afraid I was going to have to replace an led strip.

Thanks anyway

Hello again

I was wiggling the led board connector (that connects it to the power board) as it felt loose and suddenly heard something blow and a few sparks appeared. Does this mean I have damaged the led connector board or the led lights ?

In addition I have now disassembled the TV fully and have discovered that one of the led lights is blown. Will replacing the strip fix the problem ? I am worried I have damaged the connector board now also as the rest of the lights don't even flash when I switch it on anymore.

A GOOD thorough visual inspection is ALWAYS step one.

Don't forget to inspect solder joints at the connectors.Wink

Yeah just checked them the solder joints at the bottom are wiggling a little. Will a drop of solder on each one fix this ? or will I have to desolder and resolder the joints ?

I usually heat joint until molten and add 1/8" to 1/2" length of solder (depends on solder wire's diameter).

Hi turns out the board was broken. Ive repaired it now and discovered 6 lights are not wokring. Is there a way to replace each bulb without having to replace the whole strip ? As I would have to replace 3 strips.

By the way I have replaced one of the strips and the backlight is working again now but will this be enough if there are 6 broken bulbs ? or will the tv just break again soon.

Thanks

Check and see if Toshiba runs their Backlight Intensity at 100%.

Strips are easiest way, but there are videos on Youtub regarding replacing single LED and or 'splicing' part of a strip.

IF 6 are gone - rest are sure to follow.

I don't have a manual is there anyway to check the Back light intensity. When I switch it on you can barely tell there are any bulbs gone its quite bright.

Google can be your friend:

More a question as to IF they have been running at full intensity since set was born.
