Toshiba CX32D70 picture=horizontal line Can't Post

Hi, I have two Toshiba CX32D70 TVs purchased within one month of each other. Both failed within a month a decade later. One has the picture squashed into a single bright horizontal line across the middle of the screen (sound is fine), the other has an unstable picture that is sometimes full, but other time shrinks vertically or shrinks completely into the same bright horizontal line. I can usually restore the picture for a short period of time by gently banging on the top of the set.

Since they both failed similarly, I am wondering if anyone knows if this is a known specific problem with this model and what the fix might involve, both partwise and ~ service cost. I can solder components, swap chips, etc., but I cannot diagnose and would need to have a repair tech to my house as these are VERY heavy.

Thanks!--if this appeared earlier in the forum, I get a Server Error when using the model #

resolder the vertical scan ic which should solve the problem on the intermittent tv and maybe the other one.if it does not then the ic may need to be changed.also check the low voltage supply diode and series resistor to the ic from the flyback transformer.it should be about 25-35 volts, this sometimes fails when the ic goes faulty.

Hi Chris,
Thanks so much for the help. I can definitely solder loose pins or swap out a chip. Being a total novice with TVs, and without a service manual or schematic, what is my best bet for finding the vertical IC? After that, I gotta call someone, I think. Hope that keeps these two TV's out of the landfill for a little while longer.

the vertical ic will be mounted on a finned heatsink on the same board as the big flyback transformer, and usually has between 5 and 8 pins. i dont have the manual so i dont know the position number, but its not hard to spot as it is mounted vertically as opposed to flat on the board.

Just to add to the advice, If you find the chip you think it is, read the number. IE LA7838 or TDA3654 etc and post that on Google that will tell you the chip function.
