Toshiba cf30d50 R327 smoking after vert fix Can't Post

Hi I am New Here This place looks Great!

The set is a cf30d50. Initial complant was the vertical would collapse after awile.. These are the parts i changed IC301, C311 ,C345 ,C308, C305, C344, R386, D302, D301...

Now what is happening is when u power up R327 next to D302 lets out this horrid smoke and smell...The screen now shows only the classic hoiz line across the middle. I pulled D302 back off to check for a short but it conducts in one direction only...Thanks for any help and guidance...I am new to tv repair and really want to learn the techniques!!

Thanks

I suspect that you have a solder bridge somewhere that ocurred when you were changing parts. The most common place would be between the pins of the IC. I do not have a schematic for that particular set but I suspect that the resistor that is blowing is the fusible resistor in the IC B+ circuit. Start by checking for shorts to ground from the cold side of this resistor and then chase down the culprit.

Tkanks for the reply!!

Just so i understand...Do I check continuity between ground and the cold side of R327, and there should be NO cont.? And no Cont between the B+ pin on the IC? I really appreciate the melp Mel!!

Actually, you should see continuity between the cold side of the resistor and and the B+ pin of the IC and no continuity (or at least a relatively high resistance) to ground from either point. I still think that your most likely culprit is a solder bridge. You may have also installed one of the electrolitic caps backward. Normally the cap would explode however the resistor may be opening first.

Yippie!!!! Got it!!!
It was a solder bridge between the ic301 heat sink pin and an adjacent pin to a diode or cap that was right there...shorting it to gnd...Thanks a million good buddy!!!! now I can collect my 40 bucksMad...the experience is priceless thoughWink
