Troubleshooting with thermometer. Can't Post

Is it prudent to use a thermometer to troubleshoot a t.v, in the event, that a component is suspected of overheating and is there any information or guidelines on the amount of heat a particular component can withstand or should not exceed ?
Thanks in advance.

Let me know when you come across the charts for the temperature of a 1/16 watt resistor, 1/8 watt, 1/4 watt, etc.
The chart for the individual semiconductors should prove especially enlightening.

Be careful to use the correct one. You may get different reading if you use a rectal rather that an oral.
