Venetian Blind Reception

When I play my (terrestial) TV channels through my VCR the reception is somewhat marred by horizontal lines (like venetian blinds). I have tuned the TV and VCR automatically and manually - with same outcome. Any hints on how to erradicate this annoying interference.
