Vizio M420NV snap

I have a Vizio M420NV, about 3 years old and when on for 15mins or so, it will make a faint snap sound and the picture washes out...Blacks become grey and then in about 1 min, blacks are fine again. In 5 mins or so, the snap occurs again and it repeats. I'm thinking maybe a cap on the PS module. Changing contrast/brightness/ambient light settings have no effect. What could it be?
