WHY IS IT PHILLIPS TVS WE DONT LIKE Can't Post
I REMEMBER IN THE OLD DAYS OF THE B/W #1768 BEAUTIFULL TV SMASHING PICTURE BUT A RIGHT PIG TO MEND ALL THEM BLACK BEATLES IN IT WITH PHILLIPS CODE # ON THEM. I THINK THE BEST TV PHILLIPS EVER MADE FOR REPAIRS WAS THE G8 IT LASTED OVER 20 YEARS EASY SPARES ALL THE RENTAL COMPANIES USED THEM WE KNEW THE FAULT B4 U KNOCKED ON THE DOOR, THEN CAME THE G11 EVERYBODY HATED IT AT FIRST BUT IT GREW ON YOU, WAS IN CIRCULATION FOR MANY YEARS . BUT THEN CAME THE CRUNCH IMPORTED TVS WITH PHILLIPS NAME ON, I ONCE BOUGHT A COMPLETE POWER KIT ALL THE ZENNERS DIODES RESISTORS CAPACITORS TOOK ME COUPLE OF HOURS TO FIT THEM ETC, PLUGGED THE ... IN, BANG BLEW THE LOT UP IN A FLASH FUSE AND ALL, TOOK NO PRECAUTIONS BECAUSE I THOUGHT REPLACED ALL POWER SUPPLY GOTTER WORKWink. IVE RETIRED NOW AND I STILL SEE AND HEAR MOANS ABOUT PHILLIPS TVS. BRING BACK THE GOOD OLD DAYS. AHHH

You are expousing your personal bias. As a technician for many years I can tell you Philips ( with one L) is a pioneer in TV. Most Tvs have Philips parts or are paying for Philips technology. That your belief is, as it is, is your personal thing as are your skills. Please dont use your beliefs or skills as a lump you can expand to encompass the rest of us. ROB

as someone who grew up with the g8 philips i agree it was a good long lasting tv but whilst i also agree with rrobor about philips being pioneers they just cannot design or manufacture anything that is any good. i have spent years with headaches caused by philips stuff,lack of technical backup,lack of spares backup and appalling service manuals and unreliability etc etc.

i had to work for myself the last 20 yrs of my working life and i was finding i was getting phillips tvs from big companies to mend bcause they just didnt want to get involved, the only reason i managed was through pure interest and it paid off, customers thought i was gods gift. but when i see reports now of new plasma tvs being uneconomical repairs one guy in this forum suggested that it would be better used as a coffee table i think that was a marvellous sony, (ps who makes sony now)but phillips are the same buy today throw away tommorrow.Pirate hiway robbery

Well I am semi retired now and a partial millionare as you are, we all are, just depends again on your point of view as to how partial you are. My point is like others here we lived in other times where a TV could cost several months average wage and lasted. Like my workshop Philips a K11 now over 30 years and going still. Now its all rubbish, rubbish competing with rubbish, there is no room in the market for quality any more, people demand cheap and get their wish.
