What's wrong woth my Goodmans

Hi...it's my first posting so go easy with me,my problem is that my Goodmans 28" tv model 285NS(B) which has been great since the day we got it suddenly went off and left us with a horrible electrical burning smell.I immediately unplugged it before pulling the back off but couldn't really see what was wrong probably because i'm no TV engineer but i have left it for off for a few hours before trying it again but all we get is a strange ticking sound from the PCB in the base of the unit.Help guys as i'm completely lost.
