Thanks for the frank reply. I do appreciate it. But the sound module is on a secondary board and I doubt there's any current to it besides sound output, so there's no real risk of electrical shock. I did probe the leads with a multimeter last time to try to find what the proper pinout was, but couldn't find anything. Maybe I misspoke a little in my original post about what I've done / what I want to accomplish. But basically, the pinouts do lead to eventually to the internal speakers, so connecting them to external speakers should be no different. And if the input on the receiver supports non line level inputs, it should all theoretically be the same, so judging by your response, I'm assuming there's something extreme that I'm overlooking. I know the tv doesn't have a ground, so it's all internal, but assuming no shorts, it should make no difference with any external wiring still. I'm only first year EE at this point, so obviously I haven't gotten into anything more than intro courses, but nonetheless, there shouldn't be any risks if the "daughtercard" doesn't have any 120v. If I have time tomorrow, I'll take off the case again and post the silkscreened text by the pinouts. I remember them being offset from the actual pins and there being more pins than what was written though, hence the confusion as to what they were. As it is, I could have already wired up to the receiver with working sound. But the problem was that there was no volume control and any attempts would result in massive clicking to the speakers, which I worry would damage them in the long run. Knowing that, I wouldn't have a problem personally with just adjusting volume through the receiver, but since the tv would be shared by multiple people, I'm sure others would constantly be trying to adjust volume to no success.
