panasonic television child lock Can't Post

Hi guys good work on providing information to assist others like myself. My problem is of a Panasonic television set model#TC-20RM10L the issue i have is that here is that the television is child lock and i cannot remove it because the owner does not remember the code. I was told to hold the sleep and volume down and that should reset it but the remote is broken. I tried to program a universal remote to the unit but all the codes for Panasonic just did not work, I tried searching the internet for codes that work for this particular brand but with no success. Another guy suggest removing the e prom chip but i dont know which one it is because i also cannot find the service manual. Any help will be appreciated.

mike03;....

Replacing the eeprom opens up a whole host of new problems & ADJUSTMENTS you'll have to deal with unless you are an EXPERIENCED TV tech....
My suggestion would be to get an original remote for the TV & try that method again....

mike03;....

My GD computer is playing games again with Elektrotanya...
It is stopping downloads at 3.79 MBs...
Reason I'm trying to get the service manual is to get the number of the original remote & see if I can locate a cheap replacement...
Two roadblocks are in my way , #1 , the TV appears to be a TV made for the UK & #2 , you appear to be living in Jamaica which will be hard to find a shipper that will ship to Jamaica....Unsure....

Care to explain ???

universal codes i just cannot find anywhere

That could be because of where the set is made for &/or the model number....

OK man thanks. I just had another look at the tv and it was made in Brasilia and the model# has a P at the end so that should be TC-20RM10LP

OK , I've had success with the service manual download...
jts1957 IS correct on both numbers...(Would anyone dare to challenge his accuracy ???)...
However , I've been banging my head on my monitor (For about 2 hours..)...trying to find a user's manual....
Since the TV was not made for use in the USA , the manual & remote needs to be gotten from a supplier outside the USA...
The "Child Lock" use & how to bypass it in the event the code is lost or forgotten is in the "Operation Guide"...
Look on the model label for the following;=>..

Quote
if you look on the back or bottom of your
panasonic you should find a website then go to it and you should
be able to link to a user guide and you can download it

IF there is one there , PLEASE post it here so I can probably do some magic....Wink...

Unless someone here knows how to bypass the code , you are going to have a 20" doorstop or boat anchor...Unsure...
You WILL also need a working remote....
I did have some success with locating the remote at the website below...

http://www.remote-controls-shop.co.uk/...&model=TC20RM10L

I was told to hold the sleep and volume down and that should reset it

HOW TO RESET THE UNIT (SELF CHECK)
To reset the unit, press simultaneously “VOLUME (–)” on the front panel and “TIMER” on the remote control.

Best bet for this is ORIGINAL Remote - 2nd best try a Panasonic Universal Remote with a (dedicated) timer button. (Almost ANY Universal Remote should, once programmed with the CORRECT code, be able to (at least) turn the set ON/OFF even with the set in Child Lock or (if equipped) Front Panel Key Lock engaged.

SELF CHECK is NOT the same as Service Mode.
I don't see any list of what al SELF CHECK actually resets, but SM says:

TO EXIT SERVICE MODE AND RETURN TO NORMAL MODE
To exit SERVICE MODE, turn off or reset (SELF CHECK) the television.

As Ron.M said there may (or may not) be a reference to this (or another method) in the Operating Instructions.

I know that i will not be getting the original remote but i have been searching for codes for the universal one that i have that always come in handy. Every television set has a unique code to accommodate a universal remote should the original remote fails.

Re: [mike03] panasonic television child lock [In reply to] Can't Post

And every Universal Remote manufacturer can only install the codes that were already around as of the date of manufacture. So IF, for example, you are trying all the codes on the sheet of the universal remote that was purchased in say approximately 2000, it MAY not work on your TV that was purchased in approximately 2005.
Also, there could be a problem with the TV's remote RECEIVER.

I have a Sony universal RM (I believe) 7 which has been replaced by an RM11 and it works fine with all functions on my Panasonic Plasma flat screen. Might be worth a try.

RCA SYSTEMLINK 4 is a generic term for a RCA remote that will operate FOUR items.
Find a number like: RCU400, possibly inside the battery compartment.

jts1957;....

""2003 Remote 2005 TV"""
Code sheet link you gave = Updated November 8, 2009...
Would normally do the job....

However;....

RCU 404...

There's NO Timer button on his remote....Unsure....
SOOoooooooooo.......

Good luck with that idea.....Wink....

IF he finds a code that will operate the TV , he WILL STILL have to deal with the "Child Lock" issue...

That's one point I was attempting to make.

The other is that that remote, even if front panel keyboard is locked, should still, at least, turn the set ON/OFF (with the correct code installed).Smile

To my best judgement the sleep button does the same as the timer button on the original. Nothing wrong in giving it a shot right?
