quasar video/tv problems playing DVDs

We have an older 25" Quasar TV with a Video player to which we hooked a newer DVD player that works fine on our other TV. For some reason the color fades from dark to light on the DVDs that we are playing on this TV. we were told There is a function in the quasar that prevents both videos and dvds from playing together(to prevent copying I guess). Is there a way to disable this so the DVDs will play normally? Tried a gadget from Radio shack but it didn't work. Would rather use the DVD player than the Video recorder function. TV works fine with videos and alone. Help Thanks Sherry
