Pushbuttons do get an oxidized coating inside from lack of use.....
Be it from using the remote 100% of the time OR sitting around without any use for 2 years.....
Those are easy to replace & cheap to buy...
I reccommend you replace ALL of them if & when you decide to do it....

Check ALL connectors & cables for proper fit.....
Check ALL connections to the CRT....
Ground out the heavy Red wire from the side of the CRT...
Stick a grounded probe under the cup till you hear a snap or healthy bang !!!...
Make sure the connection at the cup is tight & not sloppy loose....
Look for a ground connection from the side of the CRT &/or the CRT module to (duh !!) ground...
It should be a black wire....

Just check them to make SURE they show the problem clearly....

i finally got a picture but i tried to post by clicking on the image button on the site and nothing happens. i also tried to cut and paste the picture but that doesn't work either. if it matters i am using a wireless laptop to try and post the picture.

What is your OS on the laptop ???...

i was trying to post the picture here on this forum but it wouldn't work. the laptop has vista for an OS. i will put the picture on a usb drive from the camera's memory card and try a different computer later.

well i have tried 3 different computers and still am not able to post the pic. i don't know if i am doing something wrong but i have tried to copy and paste, i tried pressing the "image" button that is on the top toolbar of the reply to the post screen. i have used 2 wireless laptops, one with vista and the other with xp. and i used a desktop with vista and when i try to copy and paste, on all 3 computers, i copy the pic and when i right click in the reply area i don't even get the paste button. the paste button is in the menu but it is dim like there is nothing save in a copy. if you have any idea that would help or maybe even i could just email if there is no easy way to figure how to post it. actually i will see if i still have your email from the beggining and will just email you now since i know i can send the pic that way.

That's because this website does not/can not allow direct posting of images from computers....
There is a way around that....
Go to http://register.photobucket.com/step1 & sign up....It's FREE....
Upload your pix....
When it's uploaded (Use jpg or jpeg format) , scroll down & click on "save"...
Then wait for the image to show up at "In this Album" & click on "Edit" that's on top left of the pix you uploaded....
That will then load into a new window...Wait for it....
After it's loaded , check to see if the size of the image is right for the forum.....
The size you see is what it may be on the forum...
If it's too small , click where the red arrow is.....
The green/blue arrow is how you got this pix.....
Then you'll see "Replace Original"....
If you made any size changes click on "Replace Original"....
Then you'll get a screen that says your "default album" with the pix you uploaded....
Just right click your mouse over the pix & click on "copy".....
Then go to the forum reply post you are making & right click where you want the pix & click on "paste"....
See how easy that was ????.... Wink

.....

Double check how it looks by clicking on "Preview Post" at the bottom of the reply box....
Practice & experiment & you'll eventually get the hang of it....
Remember to ALWAYS "Preview Post" to see how it will look in the thread after you post it.....

sorry about not saying the site, i just assumed you would know i was only working on this tv forum site. now i am on the photobucket site and got it loaded up.
here it is.

i was surprised at how easy that was. it is starting to do the shadow thing a little more now, i hope this pic is good enough.
i apologize for all the misunderstanding but i have never messed with photobucket before.

I'm not sure about what you are talking about.....
On one of your computers you said you have Windows XP....
That computer will have a program called "Paint"
(Vista might have it also , but I don't have Vista , so I don't know...)
The pix you put up does not show (In my eyes , anyway ) a symptom of what the problem is.....
IF it's there , only you know what to look for.... Unsure

....
Try adjusting the color , contrast (Picture) or brightness controls to get it to show a better view of what's happening.....
Then take another pix & copy & paste it to a "Paint" ....
IF you know how to use paint , draw a line to the problem & save....
Upload to Photobucket , etc....& post it....
I need to see a better view of it....

i hope this picture is more clear for you, if not i will have to take another picture.

what i have circled should not be in the picture. i guess a way to decribe it is like a shadow being pulled from the side of the screen. while turned on that will grow bigger to the right and then shrink back to the left. it can also be towards the top or closer to the bottom. i have noticed lately more and more that one also appears in the top left corner of the screen, and i am also starting to see it appear on the right side of the screen too.

That looks like a cap trying to go bad....
"Possibly" from that time you blew out the IC etc the 2nd time.....
I can honestly tell you that I've never seen that problem & have NO idea where to look except the power supply....
My best suggestion would be;.....
This thread is VERY long...
Most people would NOT read thru 5 pages to find out about this new problem....
SOoooo , I suggest you start a new thread & post BOTH pix & explain the problem with a little bit of what you have already had in the way of problems & what was done to correct them....
Another suggestion would be to go back to photobucket & reduce the size of the 1st pix you posted by about 1/4th...
Someone else that "may" have seen that before might be able to help you out....
My gut feeling is that its a cap , but which one ?????....

I'm REALLY sorry but troubleshooting this problem online is beyond my expertise.....

ok, thanks ron and i really can't thank you enough for at least getting the tv working. and i guess i will start a new thread and see if someone can help with this problem.
