tv changes channels on its own

i have had a 34 inch RCA tv,not sure the model though. for about 3 years. All of a sudden 3 nights ago it started flipping through the channels and won't stop. But when i unplug it for a few hours it goes back to normal for a bit,maybe 4 or 5 hours. Then starts up again when I plug it back up,I just wanted to know if I can fix it myself somehow,more than likely I can't though. I'd like to take it to a repair shop only if I HAVE to.
