volume goes down by itself Can't Post

I have a sylvania model LC220SL1 tv that when powered on the volume automatically goes to 0. The remote doesnt work eiither. The chanel buttons on the tv work but the volume buttons dont quite work. Sometimes they do but most the time the volume up button brings up the tv menu. The menu button is right next to the volume up button. Any idea whats going on? Im god with electronics and would like to fix this myself i possible.

I do not work on LED/LCD or Plasma TVs...
But , I'm "god" with analog TVs..
But , I've seen enough of this type of problem to offer some very limited assistance till someone better qualified than I comes along...

It appears to me that the small panel that has the pushbuttons for Power , vol up/down , chan up/down & the menu is most likely bad...
there could be a defective tact switch & my guess is that it's the vol down that's bad..
IF you have good soldering skills , remove that panel & unsolder & remove the vol down switch , plug the panel back in , turn the TV on & see if that does it...
The remote may/maynot start working again...
Possible IR reciever or hand remote problem...
Bad batteries ???...

Good Luck...

New batteries in remote and the remote is sending a sygnal- verified with camera. The tv was left in my truck in the cold for about a week. I have a feeling the moisture from it warming up inside may have done something. Is there a way to completely disable the controls on the tvitself, lets say, by unplugging them? And i can soldier.

You'll need to remove the back cover...
Look for the small panel that has the pushbuttons on it...
You should see some wiring going to & connected on another panel (Most likely the main panel)..
There might be a small connector on the pushbutton panel also..
You should be able to disconnect at the pushbutton panel or on the other end of the wiring...
Disconnecting the "controls" (pushbutton panel ??) will tell you nothing...
The IR (Remote reciever) is most likely on the same panel...
Just unplugging the panel disables not only the manual pushbuttons , but also disables the remote from working...
You have to remove the cause to determine the fault..
So , the TV probably won't turn on at all...
When you remove only the vol down switch & IF the TV comes on normally & the other functions return , then you'll know what the cause was...
Chances are that sitting outside in the cold & condensation damaged those small tact switches..

I just tok the tv apart to see what i could find. You are right, the IR sensor is on the same board al the push buttons are on. Unplugging that theres no way to turn on the tv. Side note, with the panel unplugged the tv comes on by itself when plugged in to the wall. Is there a place i could just buy that whole board so i avoid soldiering? That would be the easiest route i would think.

After doing some more reading on the forum it sounds like it could be a bad or stuck tac switch, sound right? If so i feel i could replace those myself, but i dont know where to get new ones.

Answer is yes...

I'm doing some research on your TV as we speak (?)...
I need about an hour & I should have some better info for you...

Where is the volume level at ???
All the way down , partly up , midway or ???

Can you remove the panel & see if there is any corrosion on or near the switches & the IR receiver ???
While you're at it , see if there's a label or part number printed on the board OR label...
Please post it...
THANKS...Sly..
There are some places that you can buy that board...
Shopjimmy is one that you can trust...
But , it will cost you much more that the switch(es) will..
AND , part numbers ARE CRUCIAL !!!
MUST be CORRECT !!!

Have A.D.D. ???
Seems I said that earlier ...
IF you can get up the courage & have desoldering braid WITH RESIN , it is real easy to remove the vol down switch !!!
I'll show where you can get the switches IF they ARE BAD !!!!

I am lazy lol But also i feel there could be error on my part in the soldiering causing something else not to work. Whereas a whole new baord is simply plug and go. I figured a board would be more expensive but HOW much more expensive? lol. I cant quite look into the tv whenever because im using the internet on my xbox and i need the tv. My charger broke on my laptop so this my only option.

As for numbers, i did write some down when i had the board disconected. And i didnt see any corrosion, i thought that may be the issue also but i didnt se any.
This number seemed unique to the board- LC7 19/22W and it said "base" on it.
This number was on other boards- BA94N0F0102 2_B another board had 2_A
As for where the volume was when the board was off- im unsure because the volume bar wasnt lit up and there was no way to change the volume. I assume it was at 0 since thats where it was at when the tv was shut off.

Tact switches are fairly cheap...
Due to the fact that this TV was out in the cold & the remote doesn't work , you may also have a bad IR receiver on that panel...
So my suggestion would be to replace the whole panel...
That panel is available at Shopjimmy.com for $19.83 + s&h...
They have 2 in stock...
Here is the link;=>...

Presuming does NOT involve Digital Main board.

Oh yeah sorry, there is no dvd player in the tv. The odd thing is the remote wrorked a few days ago except for turning on the tv. Right now the volume bar on the tv stays lit up like a button is constantly being pushed. Would that cause the remote not to work? And yes that is what the board looks like. $20 isnt bad in my opinion.

As you most likely have done in the past , troubleshooting by using "process of elimination"...Wink..
Also known as;=>...
IF you can't find out what it IS , find out what it AIN"T !!!..Wink
That's what I'm doing right now...

Would that cause the remote not to work?

Since you tested the hand remote using a camera , we can safely rule out a bad remote...
That leaves us with a bad IR receiver or as jts1957 suggests , a bad "Digital Main" board..

Some questions I NEED answered;=>...
When you first brought the TV inside from out in the cold , how LONG did you wait before plugging the TV in & turning the TV on ???
Two answers needed for that one question...
WHEN did you bring the TV inside ???..
What day was it ???

Thanks...Sly...

I dont remember exactly how long it was. Maybe left it inside for an hour before plugging it in AND turning it on? It was 2 weeks ago roughly and i dont remember what day it was. Why would that matter? And i spoke too soon, its back to doing it again.. except not all the time. Every once in a while the volume bar lights up and gos down a notch or two like someone hit the volume down button once.

Why would that matter?

Here's why...
When you bring in TVs , etc , from the cold outside , condensation WILL form inside &/or the outside on electronic components & that includes tact switches & the IR receiver..
Especially if it's VERY cold where you are..
Condensation as you know IS water...
Even tho a lot of the power supplies are low voltage , there WILL be some shorting going on..
Question is , how much has been damaged & what parts are involved ...
So , we started with the most probable of parts & that is the pushbutton control panel..
IMHO , it looks like condensation got into those tact switches & probably the IR receiver & did some damage..
The ONLY way to find out is to replace the panel & PRAY a LOT !!!!..
IF that doesn't fix the TV , then you are looking at a much larger expense with the possibility of having a bad Digital Main board....

Once again;..
But , as I've said in the past:=>...
It's your TV....
It's your money....
