JVC SVHS - Bad Brakes?? Can't Post

JVC SVHS S7600U

When I fast forward and press stop the takeup reel immediately stops however the supply reel continues to roll for 1-2 turns. This extra rotation causes the supply tape to excessivly unspool inside the vhs tape shell. When play or eject is pressed in this situation the tape winds itself up but not all of that loose tape is wound and it ends up hanging out of the tape shell.....then gets eaten.

I hope that makes sense.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

make sure the felt brake pad has not dropped off the metal brake arm or gone shiny. you can buy empty clear cassettes to use so you can see down through to check if the brakes are being activated when you press stop. if the lever is not moving take the deck out (4-5 screws and carefully remove ribbon cables from headdrun and ace head) and check the brake levers under the deck.
