No response from remote control

No response from remote control	Can't Post

I have a JVC HR-S3901U unit. Recently there is no response from the remote control; nothing. This occurs with the original and a universal that's been programmed. I had the unit on top of a paper shredder next to the TV about 2ft. above an electrical baseboard heater.

Manually the VCR works fine. Any help at detecting the cause of the remote control/VCR failure is appreciated. In advance thank you for your time and support

check the I/R preamp has 5volts on it. if yes, it is probably faulty so change it. it's on front panel behind remote window.

How do I check it. I couldn't find any screws to remove the case/cover from the unit. There's tabs on the front that don't allow complete removal of the front panel but I do see the IR lamp. How do I test volts? In advance thanks!
