Panasonic NV-FS200 picture fault Can't Post

I am new to this forum and wonder if you could kindly help me troubleshoot an issue I am having. I am getting streaks appearing on screen which seem to mostly disappear when the machine is at operating temperature. It is like the picture "shivers" when cold. I can send some pictures of the fault of it helps? A friend of mine mentioned that it looks like a tbc fault but not sure where in the tbc could be the problem. I have some pictures of the fault but not sure where I can upload. Thanks for any advice

Your friend has been drinking too much Two Buck Chuck.
You could use the Search function to find posts about posting pictures. It's not that you are the first to ask.

Possibly Capstan motor bearings? Any noise or vibration?

You think the problem is mechanical? It is particularly bad on dark images if that helps. I cannot hear any noise or vibrations - is there any easy way of testing ?

A light application of your fingertip on various parts should detect vibrations.

Apply a drop at a time Freeze Spray, to bearing, top and bottom of motor, when unit is warm and exhibiting minimal symptom.

Thanks, where should I apply the freeze spray? On the mechanical parts or electrical components? Will try the fingertip test but should I place my fingertip on the drum while it is spinning?

The drum is the cylinder motor. The Capstan motor allows tape to run at a constant precise speed as pinch (pressure) roller presses tape to shaft.

Okay understood thanks. Where can I place my fingertip on the cylinder i.e. where is a safe place to put my fingertip? Also where should I spray the freeze spray?

Not necessary to touch cylinder.

Thanks - could I simply lube up the shaft/bearings and see if the problem disappears? Also why does this problem disappear with temperature? Are you 100% certain this is not electrical?

Is symptom present in play with tape 'paused'?

Might be the reason #43 in pix are called oil seals.

Good question, will check and report back on the pause question...how do you lubricate these seals?

Assuming you do not want to remove whole motor assembly and disassemble ... Move top (bottom) oil seal down (up) capstan shaft until they nearly meet in the middle.
Turn whole unit over and apply a half drop of light machine oil to the top bearing. Push closest oil seal back into recess. Turn whole unit right side up and apply a half drop of light machine oil to the bottom bearing. Push the remaining oil seal down into recess.

Interesting thanks for clarifying. Just one question how do I get to the oil seals to bring the up and down respectively? Can I pull them out with a small flat screwdriver?

By grabbing #133 and pulling away from chassis (with or without loosening/removing the bracket that partially blocks) it should allow enough slack to be able to grab them with a small screwdriver.

You never answered whether it shows symptom with tape playing then paused. Irregardless of which oil is used,

I've always considered re-oiling a limited term fix.

Sorry for the delay - I have just done a test and symptoms are still there in pause...will upload picture shortly. Does this mean that the capstan shaft beatings are not the cause?

Possibly. If nothing else, you will have eliminated one possibility.

Can I presume symptom is NOT demonstrated via Tuner or Ext. Input(s)?

I cannot confirm the second point about tuner or external inputs as I have no external source to connect to - will try to get a source tomorrow and confirm. Thanks for your help so far

Did you check the supply capacitors, sounds like she is running rough. The bearings you should be able to feel if they are gone by turning things by hand. Oiling them may work for the moment as said but its very short term. To fix them I used to take them out boil them in detergent and water to get the gunge out of them, then heat them to be quite hot and drop then in oil. That did work well on some. Others you found were worn slightly oval so beyond help.
