MODEL NO EDIT. Panasonic pv-4562 trouble loading/ejecting Can't Post

Initially gave wrong model number. It is actually a PV-4562 needs about 4 tries to load or eject a tape. Tape gets about half way before failing. When succeeding, loud ratcheting sound from black plastic on right side. Has not had use in last 2 years, but was fine before that. I am good at working on stuff like this. With cover off, can't see anything obvious.

Also display is extremely dim. Thanks in advance.Smile

Display is likely an electrolytic in power supply.

Which deck mechanism? https://elektrotanya.com/...;kat2=all&page=1

Thank you. That listing doesn't seem to show any vcr's. I have found the service manual for this unit, but it doesn't seem helpful.

Found utube video, showing same symptom indicating, this might be dirty mode switch, and how to fix on pany type transport.
Appreciate your response.

Many DVD-Video Category are VCRs.

Panasonic produced many different type tape transports over the years and my memory is not photographic.

Perhaps you can share manual?

Thanks again. I'll need to find it again. I'll get back to you later today or tomorrow when I do. It's a shared manual with a pv-4601, if I remember correctly.

Found manual for 4601, which is shared with 4651-K, which I assume is very similar to 4652. It is

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1434780/Panasonic-Pv-4601-A.html

Don't know if that is useful.

I think this is the fix on this video.

I may be wasting my time and yours, but thanks.

As long as you're sure it matches up mechanism wise with your 4562.

Dies it throw any codes as specified early in manual?

No, no codes. May be beating a dead horse. Vcr does work, after a fashion. After about 10 tries, tape will load and play perfectly. Haven't decided. I use it so infrequently, I may leave it be, or go after the mode switch. Really do appreciate your comments.

Mode switch is a very common problem source and as shown in the YT link, quite easy to refurbish. Just be sure everything stays in time.

An additional suggestion regarding screws. You may want to mark or note anything special, ie length, diameter, thread type, etc.

Again, thanks a million. Found several utubes on this, as well, showing mode switch fixes. I also planned to take photos and notes on the screws and locations.

PS...I see a Y link, not a YT link. Is that it?

Your 'YT' link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-tp1QvT-vQ

That thing's old enough that IF you decide to tackle dim display, you may as well check all electrolytics on the power supply (all except the largest one, which seldom fails).

Sorry for the confusion. I thought you were referring to your Y mechanism link, while you were really, instead, referring to my youtube (YT) link. My bad.BlushFrown
