Since CP1 has voltage, the SW12V portion of STK5481 has correct input.
Pin 2 (SW5V Input) on STK5481 is?
Does pin 11 on CN1 Toggle from high to low each time the power button is pressed?
All pins on the Mother board that plug into the sockets on the plug-in boards are straight and flush with each other?
All solder joints on those pins are good.

CN11 = 6.8 V
STK Pin2 = 10.05 V

No difference when Power Button is pressed.

All pins look ok.

IC601:
Pin 1 (or Pin 2)= 5V? (UnSW5V)
Pin 6= .1V (Should toggle with each press of power button)

All pins mentioned are like 0 V, and nothing happens when pressing power.

12 V.

Do you think you could post a few steps altogether, so I can make some tests at once and report back?

For example, check Pin #1 of CN1, if that is 0 V, then check x on x... etc.

Re: [jts1957] JVC HR-D190EN doens't take tape [In reply to] Can't Post

How do I check that? Do I have to desolder it?

Or should I check voltages when the VCR is plugged-in? In that case, do I have to check each pin by touching the positive terminal of the multimeter on each pin while touching ground with the negative terminal?

I ask, since I'm not sure how to measure that. I don't want to break anything else.

Sounds good to me.

These are all Unswitched or Stand-by voltages that should be present when the VCR is plugged in.

Sharpen finer points on the test leads - carefully tack solder a wire onto the test point and take your measurement from its other end - or follow the foil trace to a less likely to slip / short solder pad.

I rechecked that before testing Q601. I don't think there will be a difference.

To be fair, on Pins 1 and 2 I read something like 0.07, which toggles between -0.07 and 0.07, without touching anything. Shouldn't I be getting like 5V?

Looks like the SAME point to me.

EDIT:
Take a jumper lead that has an alligator clip on both ends, clip one end to chassis frame, grounded screw or any bonafide ground. Attach meters Black lead to other clip when you want to take a DCV reading.
Take Red lead and go to each corner pin in turn. One is VCC; another is ground; the third is a CTL pulse and the last a Data pin.

Corner pins on CN601 or where? Pins 1, 7, 8, and 14??

I know I've asked some stupid questions, but I've been doing that to measure DCV. I'll try to post a video tomorrow.

Asked for TOP view back on post #54.

IC601:
Pin 1 (or Pin 2)= 5V? (UnSW5V)

1, 32, 33, & 64

There can be only one IC601 on that board.

1, 7, 8, & 14 would infer a 14 pin something, (CN601 or CN603 have 14 pins) but ICs pin numbers go clockwise (bottom view) and connector pins start 1st row left to right, back to start of 2nd row left to right. For an 8-pin IC versus 8-pin connector:

1 2 3 4 vs. 1 2 3 4

8 7 6 5 vs. 5 6 7 8

Prior to your bringing up CN601, it had never been mentioned, whereas IC601 has now been brought up 6 times.

Yes, I got it wrong. I thought you told me to check CN601. And then I dragged that mistake along every time you posted IC601. Sorry!

Is this picture of the top view good enough? Or should I take another one?

https://i.imgur.com/cjMV9tp.jpg

IC601

Pin 1 and 2 = 4.7 V
Pin 6 = 11.93 V (double-checked)

No difference when pressing Power.

Pin 32 and 33 = 0 V
Pin 64 = 12 V

When you made your slip/short were you making connection to that pin from the top to M-CTL board connector or to corresponding pin from the bottom at the mother board?

I was at the bottom, on measuring DCV on Pin #8 of CN604. Everything plugged in. To be honest, I have no clue what might have gone wrong, because I was really careful.

Voltages I reported were ok? Even #6 on IC601??

If schematic is right, pin 8 of CN604 could ONLY have hit ground on pin 7, even if you measured via Mother board pins (where the pins are more closely spaced) pins 3 & 4 say they have no connection.
IC601 Pin 6: Approx. 5 volts unit OFF. Less than 1 Volt unit ON. (If you're thinking of grounding it, use a 1K resistor.)

What effect could grounding the pin have? Simulate the pressing of the Power button?

What's cause that makes pin 6 read 12 V?

In this pic you can see at the bottom CN604. That's where I measured DVC, right on the solder point of the connector.

Maybe I could have jumped from 8 to 1?

May turn on Switched voltages on PS.
Sure you're measuring to correct pin? Pin 3 still is counted even though is floating.
I don't see how. Pin 1 is upper row far right, Pin 8 is lower row far left.

There's a 5 marked on the board next to number 6. So I'm sure I measured 6.

As far as CN604, I thought layout was:

4 3 2 1
5 6 7 8

Anyway, I measured 5 instead of 8 on CN604. So I may have shorted 1 with 5.
