MS11v - Mitsubishi (whirring) Can't Post

I have a Mitsubishi MS11v VCR and when I push the tape into the vcr it will not load. I pushed it right in manually and it would not come out.
I have taken the tape out now.

The vcr just makes a constant whirring sound when I turn the power on, or hit the eject button. Then it just switches off. If I hit the power button again it goes through the same process.

There is a rod rotating inside but nothing else seems to move. Just wondering what this could be. The tape does not load properly and nothing else move inside. Just the rotating rod about 1 or 2 inches to the right of the head.

It was the belts! They had all melted.

Thanks for the reply.. This was before I opened it up but now I've opened it up I can see that two belts have deteriorated / melted. Trying to figure out how to paste pictures

Using whatever tools on hand remove as much gunk from old belts as you can. A Q-tip moistened with rubbing alcohol will desolve the last from groove / part.

Lost belts: wrap 20 to 24ga hookup wire tightly around pulleys; make a half-twist to kink the wire, measure between kinks on ruler.
Compare the thickness of square belts to the edge of a Coin; a Dime is about .047 inch thick; a Penny is about .055 inch thick; a Quarter is about .065 inch thick; a Nickel is about .077 inch thick.

It's already been cleaned up.. My problem now is finding a belt kit for it. Two belts from what I can see. Maybe you can see that there should be a third (from the pictures).

I would even settle for an alternative but I'm not sure what that would entail.

Post #5 gave one way of determining the length & thickness of square belt. Reel/Capstan belt. Not sure where 2nd is, Loading motor probably.
Remember, these are rubber belts, Too loose is bad ... Too tight is also bad ... 50% = exact, but 25% to 75% should 'work.'

One place:
https://www.kenselectronics.com/...belts.htm#VCRBeltKit
Due to lack of demand: we have discontinued less popular complete VCR belt kits
however we stock all the individual belts of virtually any VCR belt kit you may want.

I'm thinking of making my own bands out of shock (elastic) cord. Maybe with some dried silicone coating.

Has anyone ever tried this?
