Recording to a hard drive, advice please?

I recently bought a Meos portable tv and have used the USB recording facility which operates to a USB stick very successfully. My question is about using a portable hard drive instead and from this USB port. The spec' says this is possible and 1.TB is the max. and FAT 32 is the foremat.
Recording to a USB powered hard drive seems a better way to go, but which make and type of hard drive to use. there are so many? If anyone has done this it would be good to hear about it ? Chris.
